This is a fairly common way to build defense drive AFTER prey drive is well developed.  IMO you gave good advise to go to SchH Village in Palmyra.  If you look on the site there are some good articles on this very topic.

Its not my dog. I live in Ohio and am training in French Ring.

This is my friends dog who is only 11 months old and never been trained in drive, no prey drive building or promotion at all.

Without going into a ton of detail, an 11 month old dog that this is being done to, is being ruined.  Period.  End of discussion.

This is not the way I would go about doing it, but like many people have said not enough information.

My first thought is if the dog really has it. If a dog has prey, even if they have had heavy compulsive OB the prey would come out. If the dog lacks prey, you have to try to bring out defense and try to channel that into prey. I would have to see what the decoy is doing and how the dog is reacting to say this was right or wrong. But it would not be the direction I would take. Sounds like a little too much pressure for an 11 month old pup.
