Just this summer I had a problem with Frontline.  4 of the 4 dogs all developed a pocket full of junk right at or near the application site.  With 4 dogs this summer I was diligent about applying at 30 day interval.  Other years I would go as much as 40 - 45 days.

So I was trying to decide what to do for next summer.

I am not puting any chemicals into my dog. I have even removed him from heart worm meds and only used frontline once on him in the spring early summer. After reading what is in these items and what affects they can have on our animals I wont be using then anymore.

I know the salmon oil is not the problem. Been on that all  his life with no issues.

These are what I give in supplements...

1000mg vit c with rose hips

100mg Pycnogenol, aka pine bark extract

3 Consequin DS tablets daily

2-3 tsp missing link

2 scoops Joint Strong

1 tsp Solid Gold Seameal

3 tsp Dream Coat, contains Soybean, wheatgerm, Safflower, Sunflower, Garlic, Cod liver oils and Anise

2 tsp Udo's Oil 3 6 9 Blend, all organic contains Flax, sunflower, sesame, coconut, eveing primrose, rice bran, soy, oatgerm, and bran oils.

I was thinking with this much oil and omegas in his system, the skin would heal quickly. Coat is beautiful and you wouldn't know he has any issues unless you looked closely and parted the coat. His face is starting to look pretty bad. Around the eyes, in the ears and on his snout the skin is flaking off some places, the hair with it. I am doubting the supplements are contributing to problem as they came after the skin issue and most are all natural.

I cut out all beef and other meats except chicken from his diet, until everything clears up.

It looks like new skin is coming in so I am giving it another couple weeks to see if all heals well on it's own. If not, will be seeing a different vet.

Could be the Wheat Germ in the Dream Coat! My female is highly allergic to wheat. I took her to the vet because I thought she was really sick, he said take her off all wheat products. I did what he said and 30 days later she was back to normal.

A few possibilities - demodex or ringworm/fungal (usually not itchy).  Need scraping to dx demodex, a culture to dx fungal. Might be allergies or bacterial infection, but they are generally itchy. It might be a good idea to stop all of the supplements for a  few weeks and see if that makes a difference. If so, then you can try adding them back one at a time. Good luck, skin problems are pains in the butt.

Hi,

I see so many people using seameal, vit c etc etc etc.  You have to use 40 different  ingredients .Most of these products have so many things in them, yet they say natural.  I have been using Nupro. Everything is natural and you actually can pronouce the ingredients. My dogs have beautiful soft coats and no itching. I do sell it, but I also use it.

My girlfriend introduced me to it several years ago and it made all the differnce in the world. I do sell it to several top breeders and they too love it. Go to Nupros website and read the ingredients. In fact another friend was told by her vet to start using Pet Tabs and she asked if she could use Nupro instead (dogs love the flavor) and he said absoluetly.

It helps with hot spots and has all the vitamins your dog needs. It will take about 3 to 4 weeks to see a significant difference. I do not use as much as recommened on the label. In fact i only use about a teaspoon per feeding and still have great results.

FOR YOU 4 PACK

DO ME A FAVOR        CUT OUT THE VIT C   WITH ROSE HIPS     AND THE WHEAT GERM

FOR A MONTH....THEN WHEN YOU START BACK   GO BACK WITH ESTER C     NOT A SYNTHETIC....LEAVE OFF THE WHEAT GERM  AND USE

GARLIC  TABS  FOR FLEAS AND DIGESTION.......

THE REASON CM  WAS SAYING DO THE IVEMEC  WAS FOR  DERMEDECTIC MANGE    WHICH HE COULD HAVE......A HIGH DRIVE DOG COMES UP WITH IT WHEN BITEWORK STARTS AND WHEN HE GETS ANXIOUS  .

HE IS FRUSTRATED AS HE IS HIGH AND DRIVEY  AND MAY BE CUTTING TEETH EVEN AFTER A YEAR....IT SHOWS UP ANYWHERE FROM 5 MONTHS TO 16 MOS OLD USUALLY....

WATCH THE SCABS AND SEE IF THEY APPEAR ON FACE OR TOP OF HEAD  OF ON LEGS  OR STOMACH AREA AROUND THE SCROTUM......LESIONS THAT SCAB  AND THEN THEY DRY...IF HIS DIET IS GOOD......

THE VET WILL DO A SCRAPING,,,BUT YOU DONT NEED A VET TO TELL YOU....SOME OF THE SCHUTZ PEOPLE IN YOUR GROUP HAVE SEEN IT AND THEY CAN TELL , USUALLY THE TRAINER IS FAMILIAR AS THEY HAVE SEEN IT IN HIGH SCHUTZ DOGS,,,,,,YOUNG ONES AND THEY CAN USUALLY KNOW THAT IS WHAT IT IS....DONT NEED A VET TO TREAT IT....   A FRIEND OF MINE USES HERBALS   AND THAT IS WHY I LINKED YOU THE ABOVE SITE.......EMAIL THEM AND THEY WILL TELL YOU WHAT TO TREAT  HOLISTIICALLY.......SHE WOULDNT PUT IVEMEC IN HER DOG EITHER...SHE LIVES IN CONROE AND SHE HAS RAISED SHEPHERDS FOR YEARS....AND ONE OF HERS HAD IT LAST YEAR......SHE USED AN OLD INDIIAN REMEDY    WHICH ACTUALLY   HERBS......SO THIS SITE WILL HELP A LOT......

My first thought was demodex or ringworm too.

nUPRO IS GREAT      MY TRAINERS IN CORSICANA     THE MILLERS   USE NUPROS     THEY HAVE A KENNEL AND DO PERSONAL TRAINING AND USE TO BE IN SCHUTZ FOR MANY YEARS...I CANT SPELL THE NAME OF THEIR KENNEL...WILL HAVE TO REFER TO IT LATER..

SHE AND HER HUSBAND HAVE TRAINED 4 OF MY KIDS  FOR PPD   AND THEY USE NUPRO

JUST BECAUSE A LABEL SAYS NATURAL  DOESNT MEAN IT IS.....VIT C WITH ROSEHIPS IS A SYNTHETIC BASE OF INGREDIENTS...

ESTER C IS NATURAL  AND RAW MEAT GIVE DOGGIE A LOT OF NATURAL VIT C......BUT LATER WHEN HIS SKIN CLEARS IF IT IS NOT   DERMEDECTIC     AND EVEN IF IT IS.....GO BACK AND TRY NUPRO OR GO TO THE ESTER C...
