Things are looking normal here today, much controversy.
I know the German lines are already in the database for the most part.
Its a shame AKC makes you pay for pedigree research.
And it is alot of work and time consuming to register american lines on the database because of the lack of access to akc records.
I really dont think anyone hates anyone else's dogs.
Poor dogs, how do they put up with us.

Also,
I'd like to say how much I appreciate the database , its founders and administrators.
Thank you very much.
Brent.

Its in poor taste to try to drag Fred's personal business onto a public post. I can tell you are not educated on the subject. So I will leave it there.

Oh, and Dawn? You may notice the missing info for the Lagenau dogs is now filled in. I worked on this until 12:30 AM last night, and was too tired to complete it....
You can't imagine how satisfying it was to fill in BY HAND the three generations following WeLove DuChien's R-Man, then suddenly have the rest of the pedigree pop up automatically because Sequel's Senator of Merivern was a ROM sire, and already in the database!
I'm trying to curb my temper here, but your post has got to be one of the most ignorant, mean-spirited things I have EVER seen on this site.
And that's covering A LOT of ground!!
I'm still hoping for more info. As has been said above, you have to pay for access to the AKC's records. However, I happen to know one of the breeders who owns the dogs where I hit a dead end in one part of the pedigree. When she has time to give me the info, I'll add it in. I'd love to have all parts of the pedigree link right back to the beginning of the breed...
Here's my pup's pedigree. YES, she's a cross between GERMAN and AMERICAN LINES!!

Gerald,
I mentioned the truth about the PARENT CLUB, and how they treat people. You mentioned Fred Lanting.
That was BIG NEWS on how the PARENT CLUB treats people if you do not PLAY THEIR PUPPY GAMES!

I noticed, something was said about breeding out problems by mixing bloodlines?
Problems cannot be bred out, they will turn up in later generations.
Problems can only be stopped by not breeding.
My thoughts.

Two Moons, there is a vast amount of genetic diversity in the GSD breed. One of the first Shepherds to have the extreme angulation (Lance of Fran-Jo) came from very good German bloodlines several generations back. Where did the angulation come from? It was there all along folks!! (Probably hidden as recessive genes, and not being selected for, meaning dogs showing it were culled.)
So, to say you can get rid of a certain characteristic by NOT BREEDING is completely untrue. You may choose NOT to breed a dog which has an undersireable trait, but it will still be there in his ancestors, and may pop up at any time..

Ah, genetics, my great passion!
You can breed out many traits; originally the Rottie came in a variety of different hues, like the Doberman. Black was selected as the ideal; hence it became the prominant color of rotties today.
The Dobe's genetics are BBDD for a Black Dobe, and bbDD for a Red Dobe. Blues are BBdd, and Fawns are bbdd.
You can always outbreed a dominant trait by selecting not to breed individuals possessing that trait. In two crosses you could completely eliminate Black Dobes by not breeding any dog that posses the Black / Blue [BB] coloring. Certain faults run the same way; so the only way to eliminate them is to breed them out of they are dominant, or ensure that they remain masked if they are recessive (ie. coated Shepherds) by not breeding individuals that express the desired trait.
Dominant traits can be completely eliminated (not factoring in random mutation and expression of a similar NEW trait).
Recessive traits can be greatly reduced in occurence, but never completely eliminated. That's why occasionally RED rotties come up in legit breedings.
Once I produced a GSD I nick-named "Blaze" because she had a white stripe down the center of her face, like a border collie.
Blaze was from registered GSD parents of known AKC x German cross lineage. I watched the breeding, no fence jumping here. I had her spayed, obviously, because I didn't want to see her little striped face mirrorred on the next generation of shepherds. But now I find it interesting that the "panda" phenomenon is cropping up. Arguably today Blaze would've been called a "panda," but they didn't exist back then. None of her litter mates ever produced dogs of Blaze's pattern, and her parents never recreated it. It was either a very recessive trait, or a spontaneous mutation. I wish the "panda debate" had been going on back then. I probably would've taken a closer interest in the whys of her stripe. I can just say this: "panda shepherds" didn't start come from my Blaze. I didn't invent the freaky color trend.

Sunsilver,
If I am the most MEAN SPIRITED, then my post was NOTHING with some of the posts I have read with bad language, ETC!!
You want to see MEAN SPIRITED... Go to the AKC SHOWS and see how people ATTACK the JUDGE if their dogs are not picked winner. POOR SPORTSMANSHIP? Is that done in Germany? NOT!! Listen to AKC PEOPLE and how they whisper what an ugly dog, and then when they see the owner, they put on a different face and act like they are best friends!
I own German Lines and have been told to my face how UGLY my dog is by people who own American lines! People can dish it out, but they cannot take it when they receive the treatment that they gave to another person. It does not feel good, does it? I have bitten my tongue plenty, and held back my comments.
GOOD DAY!
