I'm not questioning whether or not they are registered but why someone would breed the son back to the mother.

Also, if I have a dog that is out of an AKC registered bitch but the stud is not registered, and I breed the progeny only with reg. dogs for several generations. Is there any number of generations that can pass until the progeny can be registered?

No.

The dogs you are seeing on the database that say no info available just means either the person didn't know the name of the dog or that the dog wasn't entered yet.  Anyone can enter a dog and put whatever information or picture they want so you have to do a little research on your own sometimes.  I've left a registration number blank myself if I didn't know what it was.

I had an accidental son/mother breeding a while back. The bitch had a split heat and surprised me. I gave most of the pups to friends, the others sold on a spay/neuter contract at a very reduced price with no guarantee's.  Accidents do happen.  JMO.

Dawgs, the AKC rules are the same as anywhere else: no proof of registration for parents, NO registration for the puppies either.

My pup is out of a German-bred sire, and I am STILL waiting for her AKC papers, as the sire's registration hadn't been transferred over yet. (It was an accidental mating, mom opened her kennel door, and climbed an 8 ft. chain link fence to get to the stud!!)  Anyway, AKC required the SV papers, with the change of ownership section completed, photos, DNA testing, the whole nine yards...

With any luck, I  MIGHT get her Canadian papers before her first birthday...

And yeah, the lack of info simply means the person posting it couldn't be bothered to go back that far, or was unable to find the info. With a bit of luck, and perseverance, any AKC dog should be traceable to their German ancestors, and from there to Horand.

MI_GSD,

Why would someone breed so tight?

Some might think they are strengthening a certain trait.  Others are just totally lame.

I've seen pit bulls bred this way.. I think some of the breeders might be inbred..lol

I just went to the Geran's website and they look like decent enough breeders of American lines.  It may very well have just been an accidental breeding.  I don't have a problem with linebreeding for certain traits but I'd personally never do it THAT close.

Thanks for the information Sunsilver I guess a couple of those we were posting at the same time so you were answering questions while I was typing them. Kind of unnerving!

That makes sense though.

This was no accidental breeding.  If you read his post you'll see that he says he knows what he's doing, and no problems so far.

Hmmm
