If your pup looks like a miniature version of his siblings, he's probably a delay.  If he looks distincitvely different with fur that looks like a sheep's wool, then he's probably a dwarf.  A dwarf often looks like a fox. Delays eventually catch up and look like their siblings by about age 2.  A dwarf is a different story and comes with their own medical issues, one of which is an malfunctioning  pituitary gland and low thyroid.  Thyroid supplementation will help the pup retain his fur.  Many dwarfs lose their fur which in colder climates presents it's own set of problems.  You can have your vet test the pup's pituitary function to determine if he is a dwarf or not.  Thryoid testing is also important to prevent fur loss.

I have read info on that site-im trying to gather as much info as i can, as i said this litter belongs to a friend & im trying to see if anyone here has had a dwarf before & could tell me tests that could be done, the breeder is not open to dwarf-they think shes a runt, which it could be, but to me she seems so small & not growing/gaining as the others- so i was hoping someone whos owned/bred one could share there info. They are starting to sell & im worried she'll end up in the wrong place if she is a dwarf-i offered to take her & give her all she needs.

OMG she is so cute! I don't know anything about what dwarfs are suppose to look like really but I thought they looked funny, like different. She looks like a perfect little GSD! How does she do with her littermates as far as holding her own?

I once had a tiny one - He was 4.2 lbs at 6 weeks, and not skinny - just very small. Turned out he got a minor infection from a small abscess that I at first thought was a bite from one of the other puppies (rough, tough litter).  But once I found it, started him on antibiotics, it cleared up quickly and he took off!     He caught up to his normal-sized siblings by 10 weeks!  He was rotten to the core and ornery as hell!

me too! ive talked to my friend about her about 100 times, i think she may be comming around(i hope)her vet is mine-so im going to give him a call tommorrow and see about tests for her and then talk to my friend some more and hopefully get her to at least get a test done for her before she sells/places her, if shes a runt then fine-but if not , i dont want her to go where they dont know what there in-for, like someone else said ive read & re-read what i could find about dwafrs & they have  all sort of problems. you should see her though-shes afraid of nothing!!! not her bog brothers/sisters not the horses, big dogs-any noise & she bites me like crazy-she is the so cute & sassy. ive been calling her little-little. i go & see her almost everyday(hoping shes growing)

Hi guys, she is such an adorable puppy.I myself would do EVERYTHING in my power to make sure this puppy gets placed in a PROPER HOME where they will accept, love and care for her WITHOUT the typical bull st that goes on out here. She is what she is and deserves a NORMAL life like any other puppy.I cant stand when some people just throw dogs away because they are not the bomb they're looking for.I almost made myself sick when i started dabbing in the show  stuff and now that i own a very beautifull masculine male that had started to do very well in the show circuit ,I cant be bothered at all.My 2 boys HEALTH,TEMPERMENT,and WORKABILITY is more important than ANYTHING else. Please try to convince your friends how important it really is to place this special puppy in the right hands or she may be bounced around and around and that is not fair for this pup.Good luck and all the best.
