Gustav,
I don't want to hyjack this thread so can you or someone tell me how to do the email direct to the person that Oli brought to this site to avoid 2-way conversations? Make it real simple, I am not a computer person. Thanks

Actually, Dave, the current Showlines of Germany go back to these three dogs through Rolf and Axel. But the showlines then were not as we know them today. Bi-colors, blacks, and sables were VA dogs in the early seventies and these three dogs are definitely not the origin of these types(sables, bi's,and blacks). The stipulation I'm making is the showlines and not all German GS go back to these dogs as your question implies.
Olskool, I'm not that good with computers or I would be glad to help you or better yet reach out to you directly as I'm sure we could have a delightful discussion.

Dave,
sorry for the confusion. Dogs have three more lines, besides the male-tail line (btw, the word tail in this context refers to "row" or "listing" - of male descendants - sons - grandsons - etc.). The three more lines in a dog's pedigree are: the maternal sire line, the paternal dam line and the maternal dam line. In my statement, I just meant that a dog's pedigree is made up of more than just this one line.
And yes, the Urma book and the December issue of the SV magazine (author: Lothar Quoll) uses this male line to showcase which lines the dogs are from.
Deng,
Ulk and Quantum both come from the Quanto vd Wienerau line. Ulk - Yago - Uran, Quantum - Dux - Max - Visum - Jeck!
Gustav,
yes, the fourth pilar in our breed was Marko Cellerland who is pretty much lost in the showlines, but still present in the workinglines. And if we don't watch out, we might loose the Mutz-line as well. At least for a while, it was thought so, when nothing came of VA-Fando v. Suedblick. Luckily, Hill showed up and is hopefully here to stay with his sons. As to the Canto-line, I forgot one important representative: VA-Fanto vom Hirschel!

Hi All,
My question was about the showlines I should have been more specific. I do have a showline GSD but he is a bit of a long hair. Mostly between his ears. None between his toes or no extra on the back of his legs. It doesn't really matter as I have no entention to show him. I just thought it was very interesting that most of the German show line dogs had a common recent ancestry of only 3 males. If I breed my male ( or get a female) I would prefer the working line to encrease the gene pool so to speak.
Here is the sire's pedigree.

Here is the Dam's pedigree:

Seems like it would be good to look for a female from the Marko vom Cellerland line.
What do you think?

Sorry, I just had to comment, as a non-serious dog person. Mostly as a racing fan.
I've never heard "it" referred to as "male-tail"; it's always been "tail-male" and "tail-female", at least in horses!

with such a dog it,s better not to breed at all
