I would really like to start my dogs on a natural diet. My wife is against it for costs reasons and its too much trouble. Shoot I fead the dogs 95% of the time so whats the deal. I guess maybe storage. Anyway what is the cheapest way to go. Just to get started without paying a ton for meat. I would assume chicken wings and necks and chicken organs would be a good inexpensive way to start. They really don't have any problems with raw wing bones? I have one beagle/staffy mix that wolfs his food down.

davegaston ~ if you have a Super Wal Mart around, they sell 10lbs of chicken 1/4's for about $4 a bag. Liver, giblets and hearts are always available cheap there or anywhere you go. Once you start looking every place you go for cheap sorces of RAW for the dogs you will compile a mental list. I looked for anything les than $1.00 a pound. I had a few different stores to go to for beef, pork and other items but if I was feeling frugal the chicken stuff from Wally World was always in stock and the cheapest was to go. I fed my dog often for less than I would have spent on premium kibble.

It is nice to see more and more breeders going 'natural'. I have been doing this for years. My dogs are 3-4 generation raw fed and the same with no vaccines. I am very thankful that my puppy buyers follow my example, and almost always feed raw and go the minimal vaccine route with thier new pups/dogs. I also do a lot of education with them regarding both of these and they get books included in the puppy price to help them with the diet and alternative health choices. The 'extra' money one might put out to buy good raw food is worth it later on with minimal veternarian visits!!!

KEEP SHOUTING AT US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yellowrose of Texas

by yellowrose of Texas on 20 December 2007 - 04:12

OK SAINT FUNKMAN IM NOT SHOUTING...I LIKE CAPS BETTER THAN LOWER CASE......!!!!!!!! DAVE GASTON: You have to be sure to get beef liver, calves liver, heart and not just chicken organs...you have to also be sure to feed some vitamin c , e and extra virgin olive oil....cottage cheese, eggs ( preferably yard eggs) once in a while, throw in some 7 grain bread for a treat...and any veggies you might have , even cooked just a little...I cook the carrots and use cabbage juice, and even the end of the pot of greens , once in a while..small portons....yogurt for a treat 4 to 5 times a week....you have to have muscle and organ and bone in the diet...hamburger meat when you cook yours , give your pooch his portion raw....if you see salmon on sale,,feed salmon./////PORK NECK BONES COME IN PACKAGES AT MOST MEAT MARKETS.......ADD A COUPLE IN EACH MEAL..THEY WILL KNAW ON THEM FROZEN SO JUST THROW THEM IN WITH THE MEAT...YOU CAN STILL FEED SOME KIBBLE, IN CASE OF FORGETTING TO THAW OR A TRIP , OR FOR CONVIENCE..KEEP DOG EATING JUST A SMALL AMOUNT OF HIS KIBBLE....MOST TRAINERS TAKE KIBBLE ON TRIPS...AS FOR CONVIENCE...NOT ALWAYS ABLE TO KEEP FRESH MEAT FROZEN ON TRIALS OR TRIPS...... I also give fish oil or caps, a little dash will do it... I SPLIT THE CAPS, JUST DONT FORGET AND LEAVE ONE IN YOUR POCKET, AND WASH THE PANTS WITH IT IN THEM....YOU WILL HAVE TO THROW THEM AWAY.....STINK......DONT GET THE FISH OIL ON YOUR HANDS, EITHER....TAKES LYE SOAP TO GET IT OFF AND LEMON JUICE..... MISSING LINK IS A GOOD SUPPLEMENT TO ADD TO THE RAW DIET....AND IT ONLY TAKES A VERY LITTLE AMOUNT... FOR OLDER DOGS I BUY THE MISSING LINK PLUS.....HAS HIP JOINT CARE ADDED TO IT....
