MkMina: I would go ahead and give her a 10 day treatment for cocci the nasty thing is hard to get rid of if not prevented by the first 6 weeks of life...I give albon to every pup at 3 weeks old for 10 days to make sure they dont get it and again for 5 days when 6-8 weeks when they walk in it, eat it and lick each orther .......Its just a fact of life with puppies.....
keep on one dog food do not switch.....feed three smaller portions a day and I dont feed at same time...start on yougurt first really need to give her some every day for the next month.....she is lacking something intestionaly wise if she has squishy poop..... The albon should clear up cocci and start the contineous portions then in three weeks add cottage cheese, little by little like even for a treat ....I find if you dont feed at same time ,,let pup go a little longer let it get hungry...if not eaten ......put away or throw away.. I would start raw meat in another month after firm stools are seen for 4 weeks...hope this does it....
Ive never had any otther problems other than cocci or worming needed... some vets use panacur for cocci I object to that......doesnt work .....on most gsd Albon the yellow 5% kind that they like...follow directions I order a 425 mil bottle twice a year...I use it on my cocker when they get diahrea and on pregnant bitches as you cant use flagyll.......Mentrodiazole is for diahrea and very good for real nasty diahrea......but cannot use on pregnant girls.....
i keep pectillin on hand for puppies also as it is mild sorry but I do not recommend Pepto or kaipectate....for pups....the manufacturor has increased the amount of aspirin in it...not good for the tummy.....like it use to be......in a case of emergency Id use it it had too.....but Immodium AD is better for home use......if vet closed or on weekend had a need....
Diarhea has to be stopped immediately......or they sluff the intestine....
