Hi Blitzen,

unfortunately, I am not going. Long sad story, but it comes down to not getting leave because of a certain co-worker wanting to be off at the same time and then not telling me that she would be back from her vacation early due to a change in her schedule. I came into the office this morning, and here she is sitting at her desk. She was not supposed to come back until next Monday. Needless to say it is too late now to make travel arrangements,. I will have a lot to say about that in the next meeting. Anyway, we also have this three week old litter of puppies at home and I hate to leave them for only a day.

Plus, we do not have any dogs to show anyway, except for a couple of 9-12 month old females. Our Gina is still in Germany (bred to Mexx) and our prince Marko has moved there too in early July.

Let me know when you are in the Washington DC area the next time.

Chris

Its not looking good for me making it to St. Louis either, failing my husband developing a charitable streak tonight at the last minute. Time to open the flood gates on the tears I guess. I "misplaced" the $2K I set aside for the trip, have torn the house apart looking for that "safe place" I stuck it to get it off my desk when I ran out of the house to the EastConn show a couple of weeks ago... haven't found it yet. Thinking about doing some quick currency search training on Portia today...

I am so angry with my ADD self I could just scream.

D.H.  Can you share with us the name of the dog you bred to. Also I know that Ica vom Haus Reiterland  was a great producer - do you have any specific information about strengths and weaknesses in linebreedings on her?

I found it interesting that on another thread today there was a discussion that the problem with hi line dogs was the obedience. I love the look of certain hi lines ( tho usually the V and SG versus the VA dogs) and they usually go back to my old favorites Lasso di val Sol, Quanto and Volker vom Zollgrenzschutahus all of whom produced great working and herding ability. But often today in show lines the dogs seem to have a petulant attitude which is what I feel impacts and impairs the working ability.

So the question is how do we find the dogs from the lines we like from breeders who have chosen for correct working attitude and temperament?

Meanwhile here is a dog w/ high line breeding and KNVP titles.  Not the prettiest boy. Don't know him but do know the daughter and she is a very serious dog.  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/407349.html

VKFGSD,

I was the one mentioning the obedience problems in SL dogs . Let me clarify here too what I meant: I was referring to the lack of hardness in some of these dogs to cope with the pressure which is used in obedience.

As to the link you provided: The dog is not ugly, but is a bit washed out which is not surprising looking at his pedigree and linebreedings. Cello vd Roemerau and Fanto vom Hirschel produced workability. Fanto had multiple lines to Mutz, but also to Canto and Quanto. I know that he was also used by some WL breeders, but I am not aware of any dogs from these breedings. Fanto himself was a great dog, which I had the pleasure to meet along with his owner at his home. I bred a couple of my females to him but did not keep anything myself. One of his daughters out of my kennel, Frigga vom Silbersee, was trained and titled to SchH3 in Jim Hill's club (PA).

Shelley (and others),

Thanks for the additional information you provide on the dogs.  The ratings/titles and Koer reports just don't tell the whole story.

I just thought that Benny was a good example of how the dogs were before the split.  Mostly V rated dogs in the pedigree both sides, with a few more VA winners on the top, and a few more BSP participants on the mother's side, with balanced quality throughout.  And there aren't 25 lines back to Quanto/Canto, Fero, or anyone else.

Through an odd set of circumstances, my first GSD was a Marko Cellerland puppy.  He was a wonderful dog with a rock-solid temperament.  Definitely left an "imprint" on my thinking.  : )
