Mastan:  Please post photos of your new pup once you get him/her.

by Patiala on 05 October 2007 - 00:10

You know that I like Hektor.  Bonnie is an outstanding female as well.  She was a police dog before Randy got her back and trained her for schutzhund work.  She is strong, and good looking.  I have talked to Randy about the breeding and she likes the puppies very much.

The dam is Bony not Bonnie.

Ajay you're right she's a strong good looking girl. She's my males mama. I was looking at that litter a while ago. I'm happy with my pup but would love to have seen Hector in person, is he magnificent?? Looks so from the photos.

iluvmigsd very cute photo, Boss is a looker.

Mastan I too would love to see photos

Good luck with your puppy pick. Randy will help get you the right one for you.  I was also hung up with the color of a sable initally, I wasn't use to the look, now I am hooked and bought another 2 months ago.

If I may, I have some thoughts on this subject and would feel somewhat remiss if I didn't share them.  Nothing against Mastan here..........he appears to be someone anxiously waiting for that special, GSD pup.  I know nothing of his suitability as a reliable owner or of his past experiences with dogs in general.

BUT........for the love of G/d, I do know he wants a red/black.  How many times does he have to say that before everyone takes him seriously.  No hinting..........outright said.  Read all his previous posts..........even STILL concerned with color in his last response to Ajay.  This is how he honestly feels, and there is everyone....talking up the qualities of sables, etc.  As far as I'm concerned, color should never be a priority.......BUT----it IS to him.  BIG, RED FLAG, people.  This is a perfect example that no one listens.

I'm truly not trying to burst anyone's bubble.  The breeder sounds top notch.  I love Shelley and Patiala certainly has always exhibited sincere and good advice...but,..... I'm just  so tired of seeing these dogs being re-homed.  I do wish Mastan and whatever pup he chooses a lifetime of happiness together.........and hope when he makes his choice that he's 100% SURE that color won't matter a year from now.  Good luck, Mastan.

Even if Masten is not fully aware of any reservations he might have selecting a dog on color/markings, I trust Randy will be. She's not about to let one of her pups go to a home she doesn't believe will treasure him/her a year down the road. Even if she did make a mistake, she would probably take the dog back and re-home it.

LMH:

Thanks for your response.   Atleast you understood my craving for that color pigment....I thing the red/black GSD looks majestic.  Janos von der noriswand is one of my favorites.   Also my wife prefers that color...we can be flexible and go for a black /tan or black/brown with black saddle, but sable or too much black will not do.   I fully agree that we should put a lot of stress on temperament and quality of the pup, but make sure that we like everything about the pup.  If I had wanted just a working GSD or showline red/black GSD, I could have had my pup by now, because there were quite a few good ones available.  Since I wanted a red/black show line look with the working dog capability, its taking some time to get the right dog and I am a patient man.  Since I have waited for more than 8 months, I can wait for couple of more....And do not get me wrong, there are dogs available like what I am asking for.....there is one such dog in our club "Valee nom haus Tyson"...Patiala knows this dog very well.  I will only take a pup that I like......thats for sure :-)

Randy is also fully aware of this.  As Shelley mentioned, she will not try to dump any pup on me.  She is extremely particular and makes sure that she matched the right dog with the owner.  She has seen my committment to her and has promised to get the right pup for me.  This particular pup, she thinks will be very good looking and will fit my needs, so she asked me to take a look....I will go t'row with an open mind and see whether this pup offsets my choice....will keep you guys updated...

Thanks again for all your advice....it always helps to a new pet owner....

I agree Shelley.

Mastan---Thank you for relieving me of my fears.  You're a man who obviously knows what he wants and is honest and confident in his choices.  You won't make any rash decisions, and as inferred by Shelley---either will the breeder (not after my post, anyway............only kidding). LOL

I, also, like Janos.  Want to take a trip? Go to http://www.vonlotta.com/galleryshow.html  and then scroll down to *Sieger Show 2005, Ulm*.  Top, horizontal column---last on right.  Nice, huh?

Again.....good luck, Mastan.

LMH, usually I agree with your well thought out posts but I think you are a little off base.  The title of this thread is "Help me to make my GSD decision."   From that I would conjecture that that is what he wanted, help.  I have not seen anyone trying to twist his arm into buying a sable, but nearly all have counseled that color should not be the top priority.  Hopefully, he will  consider that advise.  As far as dogs that end up being re-homed, I would think that would be far more likely if he got his black and red and the pup's temperament or other factors did not fit him.

When I got my first GSD I started out thinking that I wanted a higher drive sable male.  Fortunately, I listened to others who knew more than I (unusual behavior for me LOL) and ended with a black and red medium drive female who suits me to a "T."

PSP---As to these well-thought-out posts of mine. LOL. Not really. If I don't spontaneously respond, it will never happen. I don't think I was really off base.......and I was trying to help him ......not to mention the future purchase. Being disappointed that his initial choice would not be available might make him jump into something that wouldn't make him happy later on.  Only a word of caution, Poppa.  Nothing more than a reminder of what he always wanted. Never felt anyone was twisting his arm.
