If a slight fall would permanently damage a young, otherwise healthy dog, IMO there was something wrong to begin with. This is supposed to be a working breed, not one that you have to keep in a padded glass display case.

Someone should report this to P.E.T.A.

Don't worry about it. There's enough to worry about with any puppy without dwelling on a little bump and a yelp.

My dogs have had things happen all the time where they hurt themselves. It's anywhere from momentary to several weeks of gimpiness, depending on severity of injury. None had any permanent issues because of that (my current dog does seem to have joint problems of the last 6 mos, but I have no illusionary paranoia it's because of how she lands from a frisbee catch or stumbles off icy steps). If the dog is that fragile, even if you/s/he caused it by minor accident, s/he's really not much better to breed than the real ED/HD types. If you ask me. ;-)

I wouldn't worry about it! I had a shepherd jump over a small fence catch his front foot and sqeal like he had died. I called him over to me and of course he would jump the fence again and hand me the wrong front paw! We had him x-rayed and all was fine front to back. Actually we had him OFA'D that day! So yes they can handle a bump or two in the road once in awhile. I would just secure it does not happen again!

DDR SDG-- what 4-PACK says is true, boss was a gift, no matter what he will never go back and i would never complain to the breeders about him....I

by iluvmyGSD on 01 October 2007 - 17:10
sorry bout that....
anyway, i would never complain to the breeders, i am very grateful to them and i think they did a wonderful job on these dogs, boss is everything i wanted and expected from a GSD....your question was very insulting because you insinuated (spell?) that i would lie about this...did i once say anything about the breeders or make a complaint about them? without me doing that, and without you knowing me, it is very low for you to just assume i would lie to the breeders about my dog....and yes, had i paid for the dog and had a contract, and something like that had ever came up, then i WOULD tell the breeder of things like that......like others are saying on here, something would have had to of been wrong in the first place for this to do any real damage....but unless something is obvioulsy the breeders fault, say a breeder is knowingly selling and breeding sick puppies, and a buyer ended up with a sick dog, then the buyer has every right to call those breeders out....but, this is not the case with boss's breeders....he has never (knock on wood) been sick or seemed fragile in any kind of way, like i said its prob just my own parinoia, because i cant help but to baby him, and be fearful of the HD horror stories i read about on here and other sites...
jenijenjen- i really hope you are joking
PSP--This is supposed to be a working breed, not one that you have to keep in a padded glass display case.<<<<lol...you sound like my hubby....he's says same things...he's a dog, a big manly healthy dog, don't treat him like a baby , he is not gonna break....lol...i am constantly yelling at everyone...No , dont throw the ball that far, no, do pull the toy so hard, you'll hurt his teeth...no, dont EVER rough play with him, No, dont let him chase the other dogs.NO, dont feed him that..blahblahblah....yes, i admit, i blahblahblah about my dog...lol..just cant help it...kinda hearing myself as i write this, i hope i dont turn my dog into a mommy's boy, wimpy..lol
GSDLVR--YES!! lol...i know excatly what you mean...my little girl, 6 years old, does that all day long...lol...one little boo boo and she says shes gotta go to the hospital...that is untill daddy tells her OK, but they will give you a shot for that...lol...i cant keep band-aids in this house cause of her, if she gets ahold of em, there will be no less than 20 band-aids all over her body...and every tiny boo boo is bleeding soooo bad, she says.....yep, i think you hit the nail on the head, he was just shocked that i had pushed him away, actually, i would have normally had pet him, but we had been out of town all day and my daughter had fell asleep and i was carring her, i turned my back to him cause i didnt want him to jump on her, and i think it was actially her leg that came around ane hit him, knocking him over..i thought ia had broke him from jumping on me but i think he was just over-excited because we had been gone all day long, prob lot of pent up energy to because of being in the kennel all day......
4-PACK & BLITZEN---thanks for having my back
and to everyone (that had nice helpful things to say)--thanks for easing my worries.......in my head, logicaly, i know/ knew he was and would be OK, it just makes me fell better to hear others with experience say that
by Jenijenjen on 01 October 2007 - 18:10
Yes I am Joking!!!
I would not worry much, he will probably be fine, Its probably like hitting a funny bone.

by iluvmyGSD on 01 October 2007 - 19:10
ohh,, ok ..lol..just making sure...u know, thats a good way of putting it, when you hit your funny bone it hurts like hell at that moment but after a min its like nothing ever happened...i bet you are right, atleast it sound good to me

by Shepherd Woman on 01 October 2007 - 23:10
Sounds like the dog is a bigggg baby, just like my white shepherd and my black and tan shepherd, LOL. They cry for attention or when they want me to stop doing something. Bree my white shepherd, if she just bumps something she comes to me limping so I can baby her! Then when she hears a bark outside, or one of the other dogs does something, boooooom she's fine and off and running again, LOL. Most shepherds are big BABIES!
