what are you talking about????  Why is it the breeders fault.  It is very likely, being a breed warden, that both parents hips were certified.

Yes it is a terrible situation but HD can come from parents with excellent hips, there is no way for them to forsee this.

Yes it is a terrible situation my heart goes out to the owner, but don't be so quick to hang the breeder.

I have also had to put a young one down due to hips, It hurts like hell and my family has a hard time with it. I agree with the posts, it is not the breeder. This happens to the best dogs. You can only blame the breeder who has not checked the hips on the parents. I hope the Breeder for this pups steps up and helps the family obtain a new pup.

This is truly a very sad story...and my condolences to the owner...but "Lena" is now pain-free...and was the right thing to do...Has the breeder been notified of what has happened...and what are the results?...If you'd like you can give the owner my e-mail address...I have a 16 month old female of Working Lines that they can have...She is a very good worker and out of very good lines...

He got a new puppy, but he had to pay half price for the new one cause he did not want to return the puppy to the breeder cause he wanted to be there with her to hold her when she was put to sleep. I know that was in his contract, but if I was the breeder I would have replaced the puppy at no cost. All of this was local too.

Its very sad, but it does happen, even in the best of families. I had to put one to sleep years ago (not my breeding, but an excellent breeding on paper) at 5 months: no hips, no elbows. I doubt the breeder is at fault here, given the BW status, and the second dog at half prce is a normal contract provision, although I know some would take the otion to replace the dog for nothing under circumstances like these to compensate for the heartbreak of  having to put a dog to sleep. I know I would have.

My heart goes out to the family. Hopefully the new puppy will fill their hearts with joy and mend the hole the last one left behind.

That's great that they got another puppy...but it shouldn't have cost them anything...some breeders just use this as a ploy to make more money....and this was an awful situation...I hope these people are happy now...and that this pup turns out to be what they want...

Thanks Bob for your offer! I did tell him to have this puppy pre lim done at 6 months old. I would not take a chance to wait until it was a year old.

So sad for him and his young girl. She is running free now....

I refunded 100% of the sale price on the 2 dysplastic dogs I bred. The buyers had the option of waiting a year or more for replacements or their money back.  They opted for refunds. By that time the dogs had already been put down. Not fair to make a buyer pay one cent for a replacement, but if that's what the contract said, it's what the contract said. I would not buy a dog from any breeder under those terms nor would I buy one from a breeder who required the return of the dog  or that the dog eat a special diet as so many do.  Buyer beware.... read the fine print.

How awful!  My heart goes out, there's nothing worse than losing a young dog, I've been there.  Send condolences please.
