Silverjudge~         Did the breeder/owner? sign the dog over to the "rescuer" ? or is she under the impression the dog was euthanized?  If she did not sign her over to your friend I would not continue to pursue this in any way, it is illegal if the owner signed euthanasia forms at the vet and it was not performed. While I do agree that she should  not be euthanized if she can be rehabbed, pursuing this could jeopardize the vets license, and any grounds you may have to get her shut down.. Best to just leave it be, find her a loving home and DO NOT discuss it with anyone!  I would definitely not have contacted the "breeder/owner" and asked questions, Debisue is correct in saying  it could end up coming back to bite you.

Yes, I had a friend who took a puppy out of a plastic bag of supposedly dead pups brought in by a breeder.  Mom whelped outside in winter.  No one contacted the breeder about this pups survival you can sure bet.  Best if the dog was to be euthanized then all should go on as if that were so.  Let the pup live with no one being the wiser.

I want to clarify a few things. This was posted on another forum I'm on for a different breed. I do NOT know this person that rescued this dog IRL. I think the whole thing is fishy, the rescuer's story as well as the condition the puppy was in. There is no evidence that the breeder is actually the one that did this to the dog. Also, the rescuer went and looked at this puppy's litter when they were 4 weeks old and then miraculously she ends up with one 5 months later. Something is fishy, either the breeder is bad or the rescuer is not being truthful.

I have not been able to contact the breeder but have tried. I have no stake in this other than to out a horrid breeder IF she did this to the puppy, my only goal is to get to the bottom of it.

IMHO- The GSD world needs to OUT breeders and people that do this to their dogs. I don;t care if it was the pope himself that cared for that dog like that. In the end, it's all the same and the dogs are suffering. I'm sick of coming on here and reading nothing but nastiness about certain dogs etc. BUT when someone lets a puppy end up in this condition, it's best to wash it away under the carpet. SCREW that. I love this breed and I'm sick of seeing these type of pictures portraying dogs.

I don't think that anyone is saying "wash it under the carpet", just do not use the dog as a reference. If the dog was to be euthanised and someone took it instead there are alot of ramifications for the vet unless the owner/breeder knew full well that it was going to be rehabbed and signed it over.  I am merely pointing out let the owner believe it was done or anything you may find on this person if they are not caring for their dogs will end up being for nothing. The then possible "bad" breeder would be the one wronged.  It is not just GSD breeders that do this to their dogs, this happens regardless of breed.

Maybe I'm the dumb one here, but thats a lot of difference in the pup for one week of food and attention. Not saying its not possible, but from my take on it,incredible would be my word of choice I hope all goes well for the pup and I hope the person that did this has the first picture in his dreams every night.                    Michael

Futhermore,I would think given the before and after pictures the person that would need to worry about legal problems would be the person responsible for the condition of this poor pup. Certainly anyone with a brain would see the person who nursed this pup back to health should be commended not disciplined.

I agree with you Michael, but unfortunately if the "owner/breeder" took the dog to be euthanised, it is the vet who will be liable if he/she let someone take the dog without the owner signing the dog over to the vet or rescuer. Is it right, no, but it is the law, and unfortunately the vet could face disciplinary actions from their state board, and the dog could then possibly be placed back to the owner. The vet has the right to refuse to euthanize for what they believe to be an unnecessary reason. I am curious why the vet did not take the responsibility to report the possible abuse to the authorities. I commend the person who took the dog, but he/she should not publicly make anyone aware of situation. I hope that whomever did this to this dog is investigated and charged.

This dog was saved and found a home. If the vet is turned in the next one will not even have a chance.
