wow   How have I missed that.....fabulous    I don t like chemicals and will not  us Revolution that the vets have introduce to every tom dick and harry......6 things it is suppose to remedy.....bull corn   that many chemicals to do that many jobs is hazardous.....i believe it and i live by it...Here in t Texas  there are so many fleas , that I havae to use frontline,,,as it is washable....waterproof...better than the others...&...none  of them work 100 %

I do feed garlic tabs, or powder their food, whatever is handy////  I spray the bushes surrounding my home and kennels and back of property,,,but that is a chemical.....chlorox is an insecticide....oda ban is a chemical     and menadione Vit k activity is a chemical in our dog foods........

I sevin dust the grounds of the  play pens of puppies before laying shavings,   and  we dont have freezes here. so we have this problem all year long...I spend hundreds of dollars a year on Frontline....plus.....

But Im going to try DE  human grade.....thanks so much for this post....

You know their is the ad on tV     DR.FRANKS   PAIN RELIEF   FOR HUMANS......WELL , NOW LAST NIGHT  I SAW THE NEW AD

DR. FRANKS    PAIN RELIEF    FOR PETS     AND ITS GUARANTEED TO STOP THE STIFF HURTS IN THE JOINTS AND BONES, AND LIGAMENTS OF ALL AGE PETS........AND IT IS ALL NATURAL......

HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS.....??????

I have also fed DE to my dogs and it is great stuff, completely natural and SAFE.  Also helps with fly control.

I do not have any idea why, BUT, I have not had flea's in probably 5 years & I go to the occassional
dog show, and obedience classes.

If you want to get rid of fleas naturally, then of course garlic, at least a clove of it mashed in their food.

But, if you are at your witts end-----AdvantiX,   make sure it has the X at the end of the name, I used it one

year and nothing touched my dogs, flies, ticks, mosquitoes, like that little yellow lab in the comercial..................

"There may be bugs on some of you mugs, but there ain't no bugs on me"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Come on, he was cute!!!

But, make sure you put under the recomended amount on your dog, I only put, one drop on the back of
the shoulder blades, one drop in the middle of back, one drop at the base of the tail.

I have heard from several Michigan professional Dog Groomer friends of mine, that you should switch your dog's topical flea preventative, because supposedly after a few years, the fleas build up a resistance to it, and the new stuff throws them off track. I think they said every two years switch for a whole year, and then you can go back.

Just something to think about.

Thanks Tammy for that post, that was exactly what I was looking for!!  Not only can I feed it to my dogs, but I can feed this to my horses as well!!  This is great stuff!  LOL  I now have some hope of getting rid of these fleas.  Thanks so much.  I had no idea that it acted as a wormer as well.  Wow, do you use it on your pups as well?  I will definately be at the local feed store in the morning.  Again thanks so much.

oh geez Mirasmom....now I've got that song stuck in my head lol

How does the DE keep flies under control?

Flies on the dogs or just flies in general?

Thanks to a rescue dog, all of my dogs now have fleas. Normally I don't use chemicals

but this time I did and the Frontline Plus did not work for us either. If there was a way to reduce

the amount of flies hanging around, I'd surely give it a shot!! Flies and ants recently got

horrible...usually are not too bad here. Does anyone still use Borax powder

for fleas? I think I have some and heard of its use in the house, but we don't have any fleas

in here. Yet. Knock on wood...

absolutely I use it on the pups.  Try it for yourself as well.

Thanks  Tammy I definately will!

Maligator,

DE helps reduce the fly larvae that is in manure, I would think it would act the same in dog feces.  I use fly predators at my house for flies, they are actual little bugs that are mailed to you while they are eggs, then when they start to hatch you poor them on manure/feces and they eat the fly eggs off of it, and that helps reduce flies.  They travel up to 350 ft, so you can just dump them close by and they find their way, I usually dump them along the edge of my dog kennels.  I use them at my barn also for my horses.  I have noticed a reduction in the flies, it doesn't kill them but I noticed there are no more fly bites on my dogs ears.

Just want to chime in about the flea problem. I have seen dogs in my shop that are strictly inside dogs and have never had a flea come in infested here the last few months. Vets around here are saying if you use frontline switch to another such as advantage and visa versus. With the DE, I did a ton of research on that when I had my chickens, DE works by slicing the exoskelaton of the parasites and works great for dogs, When I would get it on my skin tho it kinda felt like fiberglass. It works great but from what I understnd once it gets wet it isnt as effective altho supposedly adding it to the dogfood ( sprinkling it on top) kills internal parasite the same way, slices the exoskelton

I'm a DE believer too after having spent hundreds of dollars trying to rid a tick outbreak.  We (and neighbors) treated yards, especially hedges where leaf and debris buildup and it did what no pest control company was able to do for a year and quickly.  We also noticed the dogs would get the ticks in their ears and would sprinkle a bit inside the ear and would not see any more problem.

For fleas inside the house I have sprinkled Borox (available in most grocery store detergent isles) in carpets, furniture and pet bedding, tamped it in good then vaccuumed and have not had flea problems in over 15 years since the initial treatment.

I have not tried DE in food yet, but now I plan to - thanks all for the great info links on DE!!  This site rocks for good info!
