Kelly M Shaw

by Kelly M Shaw on 14 September 2007 - 17:09

I guess I would try to find the owner's, so I can see the condition of their other dog's if they have anymore. If they were kept in a bad condition I would definately turn them in, and you would know exactly where to send the AC or the Sheriff. Tha'ts just my opinion on what I would do. We have another shelter near our area that had told me they were thinking of changing their name to Pit Bull shleter, only because they have so many. They also told me they have NEVER been bit by any Pit Bull that has been in their shelter, it's been the smaller dog's, and the Labs, etc that have bitten them

4-PACK...good idea, im gonna try that...i will also try to call the police station to see if they can help or atleast tell me who i do need to call...

KELLY--- I understand what you mean, like i said the dog seems nice enough, to me--but it is still a unknown dog, i am not willing to take that kind of chance with my kids ( a 6 and 7 year old) or my dogs...also i cannot afford to take in evey stay dog that is dropped off here, i have 3 dogs already...I would have atleast 20 or more by now if i did that.....

see, my prob is that there is no owners to complain about, since we have no shelters, the only thing people can do with unwanted dogs is to drop them off near houses and hope that someone in those houses will take it in....since i live on a back road off the hwy, it happens alot here...a easy place for them to drive down and drop them off with no one seeing them...

VERONICA, i got your e-mail and sent you a reply...

I totally understand, that's why I said that would be something I would do(no Kids). We always have drop offs here as well, I live in a rural area, and always see stray's, do I take them all in NO. I have 7 dog's already counting our Pit Bull/Lab mix, GSD wanna be. I end up calling a person that does dog rescue's, or take them to a vet that takes them in.

Best of Luck with your problems

KELLY---i am not overreacting- I am not going out there shooting the dog?  I said the dog SEEMS nice enough-- but gawd, do you have kids? there is no way i will take the CHANCE....its not so much that i am worried about the dog attacking them, its the fact the i have little rat terriers, one male and one female, my male is old, 10  years, so he thinks he's THE MAN, when he gets around other male dogs, he will strut around them and even turn to kick dirt at them- and yes they have attacked him for it....so you think i should let my small children, go out and maybe get in the middle of a dogfight? or have to possiable see their dog they've had since they were born get killed? the last one we let stay here, attacked my hubbys grandpas little 14 year old dog, and almost killed her it also attacked my female ratty, THAT dog seemed nice enough....but after that i refuse to take anymore in, i am not willing to risk it...

also Boss is still a puppy, but he is male, and a GSD, when he was only 3months a different male pit kept coming in the yard, every time boss saw it he would chase it away, he is not scared of other dogs...but hes older now, if i let him out--there will be a fight, and boss is still young enough that this dog may kill him...u think i should take that chance? boss has a kennel, but he doesn't use the potty in it , i have to walk him with a leash, my yard is not fenced in- but it will be soon- , but even on a leash i can't take him out, they would probably fight at my feet and then I would be in the middle of it....

like i said, i am not pit bashing, it is just mainly pits that are coming here...and i am not going to load the dog....the last time we tried that with one we though was nice...it attacked the man that was trying to load it, he was gonna take it home for a pet...he decided not to take it....

1DOGGIE2-- I think that may be the case here, fine with 2 legs, would fight 4 legs...

KELLY --look at the pics again, the whole time the dog kept looking towards boss, when it paid attention to me he would wag his tail, but when he would head towards boss he would go stiff like and ears back....also look at the pic with the neighbors dogs, this dog, and one of their dogs were butting their heards into the fence trying to get to each other, this dog was not showing any signs of being submissive to them or wagging his tail at them...he was trying to fight them...look at how he is standing in the third pic..

If the dog is still in your yard, and you have Boss and the kids in the house, The I would put the dog in Boss's kennel until you can get someone oever there to pick it up. Again I specifically said I would, not telling you that you have to or should do this. Sorry if everything was misunderstood.

Kelly--- yes we got mixed up in our post, im sorry to....very good idea about getting the dog in boss's pen... i was just thinking about doing that before you suggested it, again sorry for the mix up....the only thing about havin him in the pen is i don't want anone to think he's mine, lol...i mean we have had so many show up and try to stay here that a nieghbor down the road has come to complain to us about them before...lol...they thought we were the ones letting them run loose....we were hey, they're not our dogs either....

I wouldn't worry about the neighbor, as long as you have someone coming to get the dog, that shows that the dog is not yours, that you are just being responsible about keeping the dog confined until someone comes to pick it up. I can honestly say I hope the dog doesn't go to a kill shelter, if it's temperament and everything else check's out okay. I'm really glad I only have 3 neighbors on one side of us. Sometimes they can be so nosey{spelling}.
