Many years ago a Kentucky Derby Winner was purchased by a industrialist from Japan. The horse sired many great rece horses. When he was no longer able to service mares he was shipped off to slaughter.

And they call us the intellegent and humane species!  SAYS WHO?????

Too bad this dog and others like him are not offered free to a good home.  What more does his owner expect from him?  He's already made several breeders a tidy sum of money. If he were offered for a more reasonable price, I think there might be a better chance of placing him as a pet.  In that case maybe some of us would contribute a few dollars to a fund to purchase him and find him a good  home. I'll bet many reading this would offer to give this dog a great home until he dies. I don't know many who can afford that kind of money for for an older dog. How many more years does he have left and how viable can he be? I abhore the treatment of these dogs as if they are worn out refrigferators.  This sort of thing is  contributing to the downfall of the GSD.

Ten dollar says Yasko goes to China. Any takers?

This is just heartbreaking. I think it bothers us so much because we sleep with a son and replica of of Yasko. The thought of ever losing him is just devastating.

If I win the lottery, I promise I will buy him and give him a forever home!

I wonder whatever happened to Kora?

Greed! Pay $20,000 to say you owned the most famous GSD? I think I am going to vomit! $20,000 for a dog who can no longer produce?

Obviously the dog isn't retiring in Florida with his owner. Very sad to see him thrown out like yesterdays trash. Oh wait, I never paid cash for trash. WTF?

Please tell me am I right they already made a mint off of this dog right? They can't sell him for a reasonable price or gift him to the perfect home? I think the dam in my heart just broke.

And read further down the 'comment's section:

I have also negotiated the sale of 2003 Siegerin VA1 Kora vom Bierstadter Hof for Gardner. She will also initially go to Dallas to be bred to Yasko and have her litter(s) there. Upon the completion of their breeding careers, Yasko and Kora will then retire to Florida where Mr. Larned can then enjoy these very special GSDs.

Bill Fleischer

Shame on Mr. Larned!!  And how DARE they ask $20,000 for a dog that can no longer produce??

EVen worse, they posted a link to the dog's 2005 fertility report along with the ad, to mislead people into thinking he still CAN produce!!

I'm very tempted to fire off a nasty e-mail to Mr. Fleischer!

Yasko and many others like him are not pets, they are big business and only a means to make money.  I know I sound like a broken record, but if GSD puppies sold for $250 I can promise you things like this would not be happening to our beautiful breed. Sometimes life truly does suck for dog.s

 Wanderer:

"I wonder whatever happened to Kora?"

Kora is in a loving family home where she is the only dog and living her life out as a pet.  She takes care of a family with a little girl and is enjoying her retirement in a neighborhood where she is only recognized as a GSD pet.  Her new owners never speculated on getting such a top dog, and that is her blessing so she can live her life out as a beloved family member.

No comment on Yasko or the broken promises of the owner of both these dogs.
