LBS,

So glad you are asking questions.

In general this data base of German/European bloodline dogs.

Most on here look down on American lines and some of us call them American shepherds as opposed to German Shepherds. The vast majority here do not show in AKC shows, not our type of conformation.  Show lines means that they are German show lines and show in SV style shows with German SV judges. The show lines also have to be Schutzhund titled to show in the adult working classes. So in other words a Schutzhund title does not mean it's working lines. Working lines and show lines refer soley to the heritage of the dog. Back in the 60's or 70's the European bloodlines took 2 different turns. One went with breeding for working qualities and the other focued mostly on correct conformation. This continues on up to today. BUT there are breeders in both camps that are working toward improving their stock in the areas they need improving.... ie... working abilities  for show lines and conformation for working lines.

As far as other titles, they are given some credence but the Schutzhund/Police work/SAR work are in general are the only titles that are considered working titles.

Hope that helps some!

Feel free to ask more if that wasn't clear enough.

Debby

When you linebreed on Ursus, you linebreed on all the ancestors of Ursus too.  Let me mention in particular the grandsire of Ursus, Jeck Noricum.   And also Jeck's sire,  Odin Tannenmeise.   Both were major (MAJOR!) producers with the result that there are many non-Ursus descendants of Jeck and many non-Jeck descendants of Odin in modern showline pedigrees.  You almost cannot avoid multiple instances of these males in a pedigree, even if the pedigree is declared "Ursus free".  (Of course, to find these names in your dog's pedigree, you often have to look beyond the 5th generation.)

Jeck was linebred 3-3 Palme Wildsteiger Land.

I once investigated the pedigree of a son of VA1 Zamp Thermodos.   I found Palme in the son's  pedigree about 65  times.  As I remember Zamp, himself, has Palme about 44 ttimes in his pedigree.    I didn't keep track of how many times Jeck and Odin appeared, but it was MANY times.

So to say a pedigree is "Ursus free" is IMO only the tip of the iceberg.
