as a side note, it is also a very good idea (once you have selected a kennel name you like) to type it into the pedigree database, as well as Yahoo or Google and make sure it is not already in use. I wouldn't think you want to poach or duplicate someone else's kennel name.

You can type just the kennel name into pedigree database here. If it's been used, it will come up. Same for Google and Yahoo.

Shades of Shasta Kennels.
Kennel vom Shasta.
Shasta Kennels.
Shasta Shepherds.
You get the idea. If it means something to you, use it.
I would call my kennel after my first GSD. vom Blitzen Kennels or my second GSD, Bullet Shepherds.

Last names are used a lot. I used my Earnhardt Kennels but then Dale died and I had every nut job calling me for a black shepherd So we changed it to EK shepherds but AKC would not allow Shepherds to be used (Check with them on words you can use) So we went with EK-9s Short and to the point. Very easy for logos and putting on cards ect............

My brother and I took our grandmother's maiden name and used that as our kennel name. We incorperate other family names into the litter names. It is really a family operation, as many in the family have had the breed for as far back as I can remember. Our grandmother was very important to us, and we felt it was the best way to honor her. No one loved our family GSDs more than she did. I can't imagine not having her as part of our kennel in some way, shape or form.

EKvonEarnhardt.
Always liked your screen name and I could see that people would hound you for a black german shepherd!
I've always though of calling a pup "Dale" too.

I have picked out a few for friends
vom Wildweg because she had a deer path doing right through the edge of her property
vom kleinen Teich due to her fish pond on her property
vom Erlenhof is another one I suggested to a friend.
my own vom Rheinland is because I was born and raised in the Rheinland -Pfalz region :) my hubby was the one suggesting that one to me :)
Years ago there was a kennel I do not know if it is still active it was called vom Hoden Hof 2 ladys named Holly and Denise owned it and took parts of their first names to make up their kennel name . It may sound good to american people BUT Hoden translated are testicles !!
I always make this joke to buy a male out of the D litter and call him Dick .LOL can imagine reporting to a german judge with
Dick vom Hodenhof LOL
so choose it carefully :))
Geronimo is a german kennel so I know that one is taken :)
nice story on how a kennel name is born . My good friend SV judge Herr Thielen of the vom Felsenwehr kennels named his kennel Felsenwehr because there he kissed his first girl !!
