What heavy said in a previous answer. contact Sabine, she is very good about responding.
We just mailed our dogs SV paperwork with a request for the transfer and Bescheinigung (spelling?) along with our credit card information. A short few weeks later we had all the required forms from the SV in hand. From what most people say the slower part can be AKC. Go ahead and have your dogs DNA done now, just cross of AKC number and make a note it's his SV number. When you submit for your AKC registration include the DNA profile number. It seemed to speed things up for our last one we did.

All of the steps for converting the German registration to AKC is on my website, on the page address below. Go to number 7 on the page. http://www.worthykennels.com/Internetdogbuying.html Please be sure to OFA certify your dog, or at least do prelims or PennHip if he is close to two years of age--- if you have not done so already--before breeding. Please check the pedigrees of both dogs to see what the hip ratings are, you do not want to breed poor or fair to the same--if you have not already checked the hip ratings on both dogs already. Hopefully, both dogs have value to contribute to the breeding and offspring. Is the other dog work titled? I personally do not have issues breeding one untitled dog from exceptional bloodlines to a work titled dog with the same, so long as the research is done.

Hey wolf359! I also have a Salo son. Check him out at: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/348016.html . As for your question, you will need to send the original German pink paper pedigree back to the SV asking for a AKC beschinegung. Make sure that your name is on the back of the pedigree as current owner. The process usually takes about a month.

VERY nice old German pedigree! Gees his parents were really old... Sire was 13! Dam was 9! I bet he works really well, judging by the dogs in the ped and the line breeding.
Just in case you are still confused, the paper from Germany that you need is an offical documented transfer from the SV. It is called a "Bescheinigungen". This is what the AKC needs to know that you are the official owner. They will also want a copy of your "pink papers"., front and side standing pictures of the dog and the DNA certification.
DREW... please explain your statement? "the assumption is that if you knew about the pedigrees and suitability to breed, you would not need to ask about the paperwork." Just because she did not know about the Bescheinigungen (transfer papers) does not mean she does not know about the bloodlines and hips etc.... and that the dog is not breed worthy. Please enlighten us as to what you ment.

When I sent off for my Beicheinigung, they only requested copies of the pink papers. But I have not transferred a dog into AKC in more than a year, so maybe it changed.
