They all just know,  They know what kind of mood of your in,  what kind of attention you need, and just how to bring you out of whatever funk your in that day.   Antics, Jokes, Loves, Cuddles, Pure Sillyness, Playful, Understanding, and Wanting.

Wanting to be with you every moment and when they get the special time, making the most of it,  grabbing you with a foot and pulling you closer, slobbering your face till you can't see strait, and burrying they're head into your tummy.

They all make me laugh, cry, and remember that I am LUCKY to have so many GREAT Friends who truly LOVE me and my Family !!

My boy loves to make me laugh! He is a goof ball in the house. He is a proven protector. When I am sick he comes in and lays his head on my bed just sitting there, when I am well he plays and gets me going, on our walks he watches out for me on things I can not see. When we go swimming I love the way the tries to catch the fish in the stream. Mostly I just love him! I could go on and on and fill up a page.

Because he is mine and the love in his eyes is more than they can hold. It spills out onto his whole face. He isn't much for being mushy, one of those macho guys but he does give occasional kisses and you know their special because they don't come all the time. The more time I spend just hanging out with him, the easier it is to get him to work for me. Despite being told to crate/kennel him unless he is working.

Thought that this was a good thread to post this:

Just a Dog
From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."
Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.
Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.
"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a human."
So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog." just smile, because they "just don't understand."

Great posts by everyone- I really like this thread.

The things that make Saxon special are:

1- He is my first German Shepherd

2- He is incredibly intelligent

3-He is ready to go at any time, but loves to just hang out with me too

4-I KNOW for a fact he's always got my back, he can judge people much better than I can

5-He knows the difference between harmless neighborhood kids setting off firecrackers (no threat) and a strange car pulling into the driveway (potential threat)

6-He doesn't hold a grudge if I screw up- ie training, am a little late feeding, accidentally step on him...

These are just a few...

How could anyone not love this face?

by Jehannum on 26 July 2007 - 17:07

My answer is similar to ProudShepherdPoppa's

My dog has a joyfulness in everything he does, and has such a deep love of life. I am sure all you GSD owners know exactly what I am talking about, but that is hard to describe to non-dog people.

Dogs teach you to find the joy in the "now." They are such great teachers.

Yes...live in the NOW. Live, laugh, love and learn. My dogs take away my worries and stress.

Don't you wish people could sometimes be more like dogs?  And yet, most feel insulted when called a dog.  Hmmm, perhaps it is a compliment after all?
