I find it interesting and just a bit suspicious that this owner is an OBGYN and her dog happened to be infected with this virus.  Just an observation.

"Jeff Oehlsen: I am quite positive it is an answer to many of our prayers that the show lines die off. : )"

You are a real jerk with a stupid attitude. You're probably racist and bigoted in other areas of your life too...

So is this what happens when you go in around and around in circles too much??? It was a joke goofball. Now go back to circling.

Didn't get the joke either Jeff.

I certainly would see no harm in a handler showing their dog's bite to a judge.  Mostly it is a cursory examination at best.anyway.

one of my dogs had surgery last oct. for a papilloma growth on his lower jaw, between the front teeth.  vet had to remove one of his teeth in order to remove all of it.  i have no idea how he came by this or whether he has been carrying it his entire life.  i keep an eye on this to see if it is returning, but haven't seen any signs of it yet.  during the surgery, the vet also examined other areas of his mouth and throat to see if there were any other growths.  he did not find any.  so far, none of my other dogs have any "warts".  i hope they don't, but i am keeping a close eye on this as i know how contagious these things can be.  hopefully, there won't be any more.  i have been quite puzzled about this and appreciate the info here.  i'd also like to hear if others have experienced similar.

incidently, this dog is not a show dog, never has been shown and has never had contact with any other dogs besides my own; makes the whole thing even more of a puzzle.  i am inclined to think it was viral and that he probably has had it his entire life.  i am going to be looking into the colloidal silver, though.

I do have a question...  Is it "typical" for an AKC judge to view the bite themselves,  OR is it typical for the handler to show the bite to the judge.

with the 4-H kids we teach them to "show" the judge the dogs bite,  we never practice with them allowing someone else to view the dogs bite...

Just was very curious on this.

I'm glad some of you are finding some use of the post,  as I said it was sent to me,  thought if it helps great !  I personally have NO opinion on this issue.

HEY HEY!......no killing off the show dogs!.......I have several!.....

hahahaha

We too, show all our own dog's bites.

Thanks for the info.

Echo, I'd say about half of the AKC judges ask to see the bite, the other half just reach out and do it themselves. Some will get very insulted if you ask - may I show my dog's bite please - so most of us don't ask . I prefer to show it myself, don't like the idea of a judge going from one dog to the next without being able to disinfect his hands. However, I have to admit that in all the years I've showed at AKC shows, I have never had a dog get sick right after a show from anything that could be attributed to the judge.  I get grossed out over that sleeve that so many dogs are biting and often wonder if any diseases are spred that way? Some look very wet and slimy by the end of the bite work. I guess our dogs are more hardy than we give them credit for being.

Most of the shows I have been to, the judges don't even look for missing teeth, they just go through the motions.

Jeff,

you are a true jerk for saying that. If you don't have anything good to say just keep your mouth shut!

As to judges not examining the teeth at shows, you are dead wrong. Every show I have been to, they check teeth, male's testicles and now the height (if 12 months or older). If you despise "showdogs" so much, then why are you going to shows? Just stay away!

A little courtesy and tolerance goes a long way. And read the article in the Schutzhund USA mag about sportmanship!

Yours in the sport, Chris

P.S. Echo, thanks for making us aware of that.
