animules, lol was just going to write somethin similiar.
I do suggest taking a step back as well. And do some more research, get involved in a club and learn what it is all about.

Thank you and I will heed your advice - dam & sire will get certified and we are looking into a place for training - any suggestions?
We started out with the training by an individual trainer in early 2006 but were plagued by a series of 2 deaths in our immediate family back-to-back, 2 hospitializations for my husband and topped with him breaking his back which forced us to sell our business and home of 20 years and move into a smaller place. If this breed wasn't so darn awesome, I would have lost it, but they just rolled with the changes, proving that even minimal training goes a long way.
We are in South Florida if you could direct me to a good trainer/handler.

United Schutzhund Clubs breeding regulation which, more or less, are what the SV breeding regulations are....

Here are the main organizations, you could look to find a club in one of these near you. Shop around if you have a few, not all clubs will be a fit for you and/or your dogs. It took us a couple years to find the right one but worth the wait.

Thank you for the link, but why do they certify at 12 months in Germany but wait til 24 months in US?
Also, this excerpt from the link you sent me to:
"4. How can a dog that was not X-rayed have a ZW for HD?
In the system of equations (see Answer 1), there is a lateral clause, that the father and the mother each contribute half of their genes to the progeny. Therefore the Breed Value of the progeny can be assessed or estimated, if nothing is known about the animal (not X-rayed), as well as if the breed value of the sire and dam are known. In the same way, a parent can be assessed if the progeny is known, because progeny have one half of their genes from each parent. Siblings on the one hand help to characterize the parents, the knowledge about the breed value of the parents helps on the other hand, to assess the breed value of the untested siblings."
Does this mean that knowing Thor & Chloe's parents hips are all 'a' rated can assure me of good ratings for them? I really paid attention to this detail when I was looking to purchase them, along with wanting all parents kkL1 in Breed Survey.
We were not really interested in show dogs or schutzhund but more in SAR and/or Service Dogs work. My passion is to raise dogs that help people (I don't know if you read Buddies story on my website) - I am thinking about taking 2 of our pups thru the local course for service dogs and donating them to someone in need.

I agree Animules. I live in the Northeast region and there are SEVERAL to choose from. And certainly ones alot closer to my home!! However, I did end up where I was most comfortable. You want to be in a club, who is ready, willing, to welcome and help newcomers to the sport!

I'm not being critical, but I am not a breeder, but have friends that are. The ad was brought to outrattention, along with one that I saw, and the males on both of these ads are both below the age of 2.
You people on this base, have been very name calling to others that posted here, recently, and bashed them , unmercifully, for doing just this same breeding practice.
This site, Clewsk9s, does the same thing , all the webs do, and the very ones all of you took aim at lately, advertise their litters and the sires and dam of the litter , on the reputation of the parent sire and parent dam.
Very hateful words were aimed at one of them and the other is continually in the hog pen ,here, and I just would like to know , how are you going to talk to this person.
Same cynerio, same pattern, same issues....but a lot of people sure did sling nasty mud at others that have come on here and wanted to enjoy the site., only to have to be constantly taking pot shots at them...
Ok, I've said my piece, and I hope I used all spelled words properly, and used contractions where needed...I will reread before hitting the submit button.
It doesn't matter, now, the litters are bred, and as I stated before, there are big named breeders, with mega titles on their gsd's and they produce bad hips as well as good hips...They have paperwork , out the baskets, and that paperwork doesn't change the fact, that those dogs produce bad hip and health problems just like these could possibly without paperwork and certification. Kraftwerks just got a full blown putdown , last week , on here, and now here is a litter out of two of their dogs...So let's discuss , what is going on in the germans shepherd gene pool. And I guess , breeders ,here , probably should be the ones, with the most imput to these questions...

Does this mean that knowing Thor & Chloe's parents hips are all 'a' rated can assure me of good ratings for them?
unfortunately not.
I'm not sure why the SV hips can be done at 12 months verses 24 months for the OFA.
This is just a theory, but I would assume, that before putting the time into the dog, to title, get a show rating, and ultimately prepare for a breed survey. you'd want to know if the dog has acceptable hips.

luvmidog, I believe one major difference here so far is clewsk9s has said they maybe got bad advice before and after reading here understood things better, that they really want to learn the right way. I am taking them at their word at this point and hope its trues. They also have some very well bred dogs to start with which gives hope to actually doing and completely some working titles. If they listen and learn from some of the true experts here they should do well. If later they ignore advice to wait and learn and put things in order before breeding again, you may find the tone of posts changing. I really hope they listen and take their time to follow thesteps and do right for them and their dogs.
clewsk9s, be aware some rough sounding answer may hold the best advice. Read the words and intent, not if the person answering is being short with you. You did start out with a mistake in many here's eyes, what you do next and how you handle your self and dogs will speak the world of how much real help you will receive.
I am serious when I wish you good luck. And I will answer helpfully as long as you're willing to continue learning.
BTW, I hope your husbands back is on the mend. I have to be careful with my back or could rach that point also.
