Buy US dogs, shipping is cheaper, legal action can be taken if you get a contract. The Euro is killing the american dollar and it will continue to, its like paying an extra 33 percent tax.  IF you want an adult, DONT do it, nobdoy will get rid of their best dog, and you should only want the best, so go with the pup. let me know if this helps.  good luck Deanna

Dog Whisperer: so are you for or against getting into this perdicament again...seems this is always the case...I have had good luck with some, but one bad $3000.00 mistake can hurt for months.....and tarnishes the good  , and it is good to air these issues on the public forum to help make a decision which way you want to go ..

I know which way I would go, having never imported a dog....and there are no guarantees there or here...Ill stake my bank roll on here..where I can get my horse whip after them...

Thanks a million to all of you've. In regard to recommended people to contact (and avoid) I've made notes.

I like buying in the USA from one of the smaller breeders.  They are prepared to sell you their best if you are going to do something with the pup.  You would never get this from a kennel in Germany unless you were very lucky.  I know who Theresa is referring to and I totally agree.  Nothing nicer than to deal with an honest breeder and committed person in the sport.  I am getting 2 pups from her which I hope will do her kennel name proud.  She certainly deserves it!

Golden elk - what have you done with GSDs already?  are you an experienced show person or working trainer?  havent you made contacts with judges and other breeders who have good contacts in germany where you can get your next dog ???  that's how you find out what brokers are honest and good, from your peers in the sport.

from your comments, you seem to think buying a couple of imported dogs and breeding them is a good occupation - and income generator - for retirement?  the whole problem we have here in the US is cause everyone wants to breed and make money and I bet 3/4 of the 'breeders' have never trialed a dog or shown a champion  {use is generic - all breeds have too many BYB/ or have any real knowledge of the breed, standards or quality stock} But they all think they are breeders coz they have a few extra bucks and make a few litters - lol - throwing together wash out dogs, 1-2 inbreds and dogs whose linebreeding is so heavy on problems it is scary...but they are breeders telling JQPublic about how great their dogs are coz they have so and so in the pedigee

comeon people - READ this - send him to CA where the governmentt does not want people breeding - because of this kind of stuff

Golden Elk - if the dog is being shipped out of Germany I can help you with this. Contact me privately.

JRT - from what I understand it is not a GSD. Different breeds, different issues. And the CA thingy is not an issue any longer, for the moment anyways. I am sure they are back to the drawing board for another version.

Dude, I'm not even going to rip you for this post because you are actually trying to teach a lesson and I assume you mean well, but all I can say is READ THE POSTS. Never did I say I was breeding nor did I say I was finished with GSD's - I am a lifer as far as this breed is concerned. And retirement???? I'm 28!

If you want to see my stance on irresponsible breeding, read my response on the subject in this thread www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/bulletins_read/110474.html#110712

Breeding should never be done for profit IMHO.

Golden Elk, how common are the Russian Black Terrier in the US?  And what do they do?  I'm not familier with that breed and like to learn when I can.

Dog Whisperer

I have heard some great stories about Bob.  It's like the Die Hard series of movies.  Every one is the same, with the same characters, only in a different setting.  I met him quite a while ago.  Him and his pal Larry.
