I've got Ivan's training DVD's and I like them very much and can highly recommend them.

More training, less self-promotion... good combination.  :)

zdog, just so I can better understand Ed's expertise and background; can you tell me how many dogs he has titled? Since he sells so many dogs and products aimed at the sport of schutzhund, has he titled any in this sport? What would be some of his scores and with what dogs?

by zdog on 11 July 2007 - 19:07

I don't really care what his scores were, or if he has any titled dogs.  I got a good start and good foundation by watching some of his videos.  I think I can teach a decent retrieve by his retrieve video, I like his drive and focus vids.  I think his tracking vid is good.  I would like to get into his hard surface tracking someday, because I have zero foundation in that as far as i'm concerned.

As i've been in the sport a while, and I don't know near enough as i'd like to, but i have noticed that a lot of what he has in his videos is applicable to almost everything we do out on the field.  I've also noticed that I've changed some things that aren't much like what I had learned originally.

Fact is I bet most people that know about schutzhund today wouldn't know about it at all if not for his website, I know I wouldn't.  Love him or hate him I could care less.  I found the free stuff he put out and the vid's I bought when starting to be very valuable to me as I got into the sport.

I do have the Ivan vids as well.  Very well done as well, and highly recommended.  I doubt he shot the footage, edited it, put it together, etc.  I would be someone else did all that.  If you think the leerburg vids are no good, let's see what you've got???  It takes a lot of work to do that stuff, and I am THANKFUL that he has taken the time to do it.  I could care less if he promotes himself to make a living.  I know lots of people in this sport that thinks their shit don't stink and they know EVERYTHING there is to know.  Funny thing is, I've learned a bit from all of them.

"Honest" Ed Frawleys  biggest claim to fame is producing "300 litters".   SO What?

What have they done honest Ed?   Thats 1800 puppies, surely there should be a few International, National & Regionnal qualifiers. But there is nary any, with such claims or titles.

Some guy named Steve did a take off spoof of his site and calls its Leerkopf as Ed used a German Working kennel called Leerburg and stole the name...it is hilarious as he & Ed got into it. I think Steve has the last word times 100..Heres his site. FYI

I must agree with most of the posts that state he is full of himself. On the flip-side all people know there is no one set way to train a dog as they all are different. His video's are just some very basics to training. I believed they are way overpriced and I will never buy one at full price. I have nearly 15 of his videos and only care for 2 of them. I bought them on ebay, burned them as they are not protected, then sold them back on ebay ( got my money back and came out ahead at times)!!!

I bought 3 of his DVD's.  I really didn't like any of them and found it hard to retain the information because of all the BS that is all over each segment.  One poster was very correct the vids show very little actual training.  I spent a ton of money for the vids (thank goodness they are a tax writeoff.)  I do not reccommend any of them.

Uglydog,

Thanks for posting that link.  ROFLMAO!  Fun reading.

****

His videos are like his web site... useful information there for those with the patience to pick through the hoo-ha.  Personally I won't buy any of his vids again, not because of the content, but because Ed's just rude.  I don't care if he IS the world's best trainer, or if he titled 100 dogs... as the saying goes:  "Mean People Suck".  I have a bunch of his vids, and I do like the Flinks vids, but I'm not going to patronize his biz anymore.  I even requested he delete me off his web board.  However, this is a personal decision as I believe in the policy of "vote with your wallet".  Everyone should make up their own mind and follow their own conscience.

i agree that IVAN's dvd's are good and his method's he himself has more than proved. but everyone should know that they aren't for that 8 week old pup. he doesn't go into the fact that this is for a dog that has had some basic training with food response and other things. (although he shows it very briefly at one point) this is more for after they understand the basics then you can use his technic. so for the new guy to buy them for his first pup thinking he's going to get started he's going to end up shelveing them for a little while until his pup is a bit older.

<<>> Personally my first brush with Schutzhund came from library books...call me old fashioned. But its true that Ed's ego is so bloated and distracting that you end up feeling like a douche bag for having sat through 3 minutes of one of his lauded videos. I really don't like being preached to, sold or convinced that there is only one right way to do anything, especially if the ulterior motive is to feed some rich swindler's bank account and his grandeloquent notions of self importance. I'll take the humble approach of the Monks any day.

Ed is full of it all and he has tried to run down breeders. The breeder I know bought frozen semen from him many many years ago, because I believe Ed has no more he is trying to get it back by running him down. When you try to talk to him about the issue or have your say on his message board about it, he refuses your input to be put on his board. He likes it to be what he wants and not the truth. I even tried ringing him and his wife said he only does emails. Then them he doesn't answer. I rang from Australia, you think he might have taken the call, no and didn't answer my emails. I've just decided he is a virus with a computer .He registers to me as a bad breeder if you can't speak to him on a phone, then he might even come under the idea of a puppy mill?
