Bob-O I do believe age has something to do with it. I had a female that never ,ever showed signs of nervousness as a young dog of thunder, fireworks or gunshots. I did a TT with her and the starter pistol was especially loud about 5' behind us and she was just a waggin' her tail. As she got older when in the house if it thundered she would get the "look" and go behind a chair and lie down, if outside on a walk she act normal. Very weird. She didn't like the 4th either when she got older. There hearing must change somehow.

Neother of my GSD's ever showed any fear of loud noises until they hit 5, 6 years of age. I've had the same experience with another breed.

Nenz, 5 years, was so spooked he wouldn't potty if he heard one, and Spunky, almost 5 months went with to watch the local fireworks down by Lake Superior. She was totally calm, munching contentedly on my 5 year old daughter's spilled oreos.

Mine had no reaction, none of my GSD's have so much as yawned at fireworks, thunder, etc..

I don't think my old Sch 3 dog even bothered to wake up for the fireworks and my young male kept looking around trying to figure out where the sounds were coming from. It was pretty funny to watch him standing with hindquarters in the house and front half out the dog door on the patio stairs with a totally confused look on his face! Hey sue I still have the video to send you from the Portland seminar so don't forget to send me your address! I am on the road for the next 4 days picking up my female from the breeder as it is too hot to fly her but you can reach me on my cel phone or just email it to me.
