Vikram,
My puppies are priced below that and are from two top proven producers of working lines and hardly crap.

Vikram, I'd suggest you get a dog with at least a SCH I title since you mentioned you want to train further. The dog- depending on where you get it from and what it's pedigree looks like should have a decent foundation you can build on with the right trainer teaching you. $45,000??? Yes, I've seen those fancy sites ALL FULL OF SHIT! No way. The dogs priced high don't necessariy mean they will work. Most are junk but people are banking on a wealthy person who knows nothing about the breed to dish out big bucks thinking the more he spends the better the dog. NOT SO! You can get a very nice dog for under $5,000, depending on pedigree. If you want a fully trained pp dog which would be equivalent to a SCH III then you will spend much much more. Since you are new and I am fairly new also I would not suggest you start with a puppy. It's too hard to tell with a pup how it will actually work when it reaches maturity as someone else mentioned. Also with not knowing how to train you will become frustrated and overwhelmed in not knowing how to train the dog correctly. Best advice I can give a new person coming from another new person is stay away from the fancy websites that advertise high ticket dogs as "executive protection dogs", talk to people that have been breeding and training the lines you decide to go with and get references from people you've personally spoken to that you feel comfortable with who have purchased dogs from the individual you are interested in doing business with. There's a lot of dogs out there, a lot of breeders and a lot of BS too. If you have a limited budget then it's best to save up and wait a little longer to get a better dog than to go buy one cheaper that is gonna be a disappointment. Just my 2 cents.

It's funny! I don't have to name the shmuck That I talked to and his name and company ends up on the thread. That guy used to breed some crazy timber shepherd back in the day.

Don, I know nothing of him I had a customer who purchased from him one time a wealty couple from New York and paid something like 10,000 for a retired breeder Sch1 7 years old and then they called me about a male is how I knew of this scam artist. The dog had cancer and died within days or weeks of purchase from this place and I went and looked at the prices and lost my breath laughing. My next question is why would someone pay 38,000 for a untitled dog for protection you could hire a secuirty guard cheaper! It amazes me within the dog business there are so much going on. I have had trained dogs here for personal protection and never got over 3,000 for one. This Sch1 I have now is top sport and that is different for him to be at 7,000 and still a fair price for the individual dog but if Harrison had this dog he would be 75,000 I am sure.

varun, if you want a real working dog bred for work, for less money, import from Belgium or Holland. Some US breeders don't ask crazy prices for a 8 week old pup either. In Bel and Holland they don't mess around when it comes to breeding hard dogs. They don't much breed for looks and sometimes don't even care so much about paperwork, but they sure now how to make some nice pups. I bought pups without seeing them in person too. You cannot find great dogs in my area. There are many dogs and breeders but you can't get your hands on the great ones, not without connections or lots of $$$$. Keep researching what you desire and find some breeders to email back and forth with. A good breeder will help and answer what questions they can. A great breeder will send you elsewhere, if they don't have what you seek. You will have to know how to see through the smoke and mirrors. Some will try to sell you their pup, even if it isn't what you need.
If you have allot to learn, don't rush yourself, keep asking questions and looking. Talk to as many people as you can about dogs. Soon you will tell the fakes from the ones who know their shit! Internet is great for research, books, videos, and breeders to correspond with. Of course the PDB is a great place to ask questions and study lines as well. Start out by finding dogs you like, look them up, search the Internet of video, read their pedigrees. Soon you will recognize certain dogs in pedigrees of dogs you like. Study these dogs too. Look for progeny out of them, search for breeders with young dogs of these lines and thats how you can get a better priced pup out of great lines.

Varun,
There are a lot of people on this board who have integrity and credibility and have the patience to answer your questions, but most of them do not have a realistic idea as to what the situation is in India and the state of Schutzhund sport or protection training there. In my opinion, unless you have contacts in the military or specialized canine police units, you may not be able to train your dog in personal protection or even sport work. Even if you buy a trained dog, you have to keep his/her skills alive by continuing the training or else the dog will either lose the skills or become destructive if the drive hunger is not satisfied. Do your home work and consider all these factors before you get into this so that you don't ruin your peace or worse, the poor dog's life.
You may want to contact ajay singh who is from india and is well informed about protection dogs and working lines-german shepherds in general. His info is on this site.
I wish you good luck in your pursuit.
