peter, this site is for information. i asked the question knowing i would most likely get instant replies since quite a few people import.
what is your problem. just joined and already starting trouble.
why am i even replying to you??

Prices are different because it´s during the Size of the Box/Cage (Size of the Dog) and which Airport and if it is a direct flight or not.
so to ship a pup is much cheaper as to ship a big dog.
you must know which size of Box/Crate you need

There has been a significant increase in price earlier this year. Up to 200 Euros per crate. Size of crate also affects cost. Most airlines will not even allow you to book a pet as cargo out of Germany unless you are a known shipper. Contact GK, best and easiest option.
Peter, this site is full of people who do not opt to use the search option of this message board, or it may simply have never occurred to them to use it, or they may have never seen that it is even there. Most posts are repeats of previous topics. Since most of the traffic to the site is from newcomers it is a good idea to bring topics up again. Especially when things have changed since the last time they were mentioned, such as the shipping prices have recently. Personally, if I can pool my resources instead of spending hours calling and searching elsewhere, I'd rather be efficient and see where I can get the info quickly before I have wasted valuable time. Your comments are rather rude. Chill buddy. If you want to discuss societies shortcomings, please look for a place where that is on the topic list. Lets keep it to the dogs here, without the site going to the dogs :o).

I imported a pup about February 1st. The total cost of the shipping with crate etc. at that time was 400 euros. I was told that the cost did go up about 10% after the first of January but because I purchased in '06 I got that rate. She flew Lufthansa, they only do direct flights, into Portland Orgon from Frankfurt. There was a $25.00 charge at the airport at time of pickup too.Hope that helps.

oh - I think thats another thing - depending on the time of year the prices probably vary - there are high seasons and low seasons and costs of airline tickets always go up during high season...I imagine cargo would be the same way as well...My pup came at the height of High Season...lol...bad timing on my part.

Peter this is a well respected site for information and not a site for children like behavior. There are all kinds of people on this site with very expensive hobbies and take this hobby very serious so knock the BS off and be a gentleman. Harley as far as your question gos lufthansa is the way to go I've imported and have friends that import and they all use this specific airline. Peter don't waste your time with a smart remark cause I won't and don't have time for the games, so another words don't waste your time or anybody elses on here.

Hi Harley
I imported my GSD.."Moby" in Feb. from Holland to Philly Pa. I paid approx $750 on Delta. I would strongly advise you to use any airline but them. It was a mess. They never put him on the connecting flight from Atlanta to Philly. There was about a 2 hour delay. How do you miss the connecting flight??? They put him in a kennel in Atlanta without telling me. I found out that he did not make the flight when I got at the Philly airport. I did call Delta before I left my house and they confirmed that he was on the connnceting flight. When I got to the airport he was not on the flight. I finally got a staight answer 3 hours after the flight laned. I was pissed. It took me another 45 mins to get a hold of the kennel to find out his status. Thank god the breeder tape food to his kennel. The kennel owner had him playing with other dogs that were there. I had to instuct the kennel manager not to allow him to be with any other dogs. Anyway....do NOT ship Delta.
Good luck

WOW!
Did you ask yourself, why does this s#!t happen to me?
Do you know how many dogs are shipped every day? You just happened to be the unlucky one!
Didn't Delta reimberse you in any way? Or did they charge you more for the boarding? LOL

Stuff happens sometimes. We had a similar last fall from overseas. Plane problems on friday so she ended up in a kennel. I was told she had been rebooked for the weekend only to find out they don't ship dogs over the weekend (from where she was anyway). Flight monday was 3 hours late and we had to remind the airlines and customs we needed an agent to clear her after hours due to the late flight. She showed up very happy and clean with clean papers lining her crate so I think her weekend was just fine. She was worth the wait. But talk about a nerve racking few days for us!

You have no idea. I was sooo pissed. Thank god my husband is a police office and he keep me calm at the airport. I was screaming! No, they did not reimburse me a cent. I wrote letters and talked to upper management. Nothing! No, they did not charge me for the overnight stay in the kennel. I will never use them again! I wanted to use Lufthansa, but they do not fly out of Amsterdam.
