American Airlines is an option as well. HOWEVER- I am fairly certain when you bring a dog as excess baggage, it is still in the cargo area if it is a large dog. The only way you can have them in the top with you is if it is a service dog or a small dog in a carrier the same size as the carry on luggage has to be. Also, if it is a big dog and will be in the cargo area, I am pretty sure they will not allow it to fly if the starting point , any layovers,or destination are over 85 degrees F. This is pretty much across the board for all the carriers. I am flying a dog from dallas tomorrow morning and the breeder was nice enough to take her to the airport at 3am for me. The only flight she could go on is at 0625 due to the weather. Also, like was already said, the 700 series planes should be fine, but ones like M80 have an opening too small for a 500.
Good luck!

Hi Shelly.
As a SAR dog handler I fly alot!!! WE just got back from S. Dakota and flew United. I have flown US Air (they are great) .South West will only alow us to fly on actual deployments. Yes they do not often ask for paper work but I have had to show some on occasion.
Better not to lie than be caught at the airport. dog in hand and No paper work to back it up.
Remember, flying a dog in the cabin isa privledge.

Sarah,
I'm curious, do they allow a SAR dog on a mission to fly in the cabin or do you mean as cargo? If cargo would the fumes etc., interfere with his scent work for a period of time? Or do you clear the dog and if so for how long?
Thanks,
Dawg

Thanks all. If I could get an image of documentation for a service dog, I can forge just about anything. Ha ha ha. No questions though. I don't know diddly about service dogs. I am certifiably disabled under the ADA, but I'm not sure how a dog fits in with ADHD... Maybe I need him to remember to hanfgon to my tickets? Keep me from missing the flight when I get distracted by the shops on the way to the gate?
Carol would be perfect in the cabin... 'way better than 90% of the kids people take on planes. Continental ships year round but wants cargo rates. Ditto for most of the others. T (Carol) may have to stay with a sitter for this trip.
Where have the days of flying a dog with you, anyplace, any size crate, for only $50-60 gone? Sigh...
