Does anyone remember Phyllis Ledke (sic)? Not a one shot wonder, but certainly a blast from the past!

I think this could be possibly libelous and hurt people Shelly.
As far as Greg Bento - I believe he trialed at a national level for several years with another dog, even winning one of the National events - the dogs name escapes me at the moment. von haus Weltz dog? I stayed at the same hotel with him at a National 4 or 5 years ago...and he had a Bastin Kokeltal pup I heard a bit later.

Heard many stories about what a team Glenn Bennett and Buck were. Met him once and enjoyed our conversation and the old stories. I don't like to think these competitors just fell off the face of the earth or could not hack it anymore... but know priorities change, family come first, job alot of Sch is just a hobby.
A name that comes to mind is the team of Rod Tompkins and Enzo Manepo. This was a great team that had a good long run. A club member got Rod's old dog named Uzi from (Enzo and Jara), I forget what happened to the dog, but Rod had a daughter from what I was told and that was his main priority as competing with Enzo took some time from Rod family.

I think that this thread only wants to honorably mention those from the past that all have done well , and everyone in USA of America will think of someone that trained and achieved , thats what is all about , "You work your whole life to beome the Sieger===to breed, to have, to posess, to own a dog that wins the championsip" quoted by Wayne Davis, former pres of West Virginia Canine College in West Virginia, owner of VA-1 Nicko von der Noriswan, Schh3, KK1 l(a) North American Sieger 1997

Also too, one must remember that you don't have great dogs time and time again! Isn't that what we seek! The very best dog possible?!
SS, haven't you had a "ONCE IN A LIFETIME" dog? Many of the one time wonders as you so label them may just be that, ONCE IN A LIFETIME!

I agree 110% with Sunsilver on this one.
Winning the lottery once is still winning the lottery.

Yellow Rose, now that I have read your post I think you hit it right on the nose and I am sure that is the spirit in which this thread was intended.

I would be thrilled to be a one-shot wonder! It's the people that put all their time and money into that one special dog that are the ones I respect the most. They're not doing it just to turn around and sell the dog or breed the dog. They do it for the love of the sport and the dogs.
