Olga Ashley

I guess that depends on how close they are with this friend, if a close doggy friend of mine wants to use a male of mine, I dont charge them a stud fee.  Otherwise, fees are always due up front and are never refundable, although if the bitch does not take or only whelps one live pup another breeding would be given (not necc. to that same bitch).  Thats generally how things work, I have never heard of a fee that was refundable, I don't think that exists in the dog buisness.

It isn't a close friend, I don't think. And I agree with Olga with there are no refundable fee's in the dog world. It's funny though, this woman knowingly read and signed a contract (that clearly stated no refunds, no exceptions) and is now asking for the fee back, with a million reasons as to why she should get her money back. My friend shouldn't even have humored a contract in the first place, this woman has done nothing but cause problems, etc. for her.    :(

I think my friend must have "SUCKER" tattooed on her head... I dunno sometimes...

I had to lie because i knew the stud owner will just sell the pup to who knows... backyard breeders... I had 3pups 2 long stock coats and a normal coat with a tail  that is docked... I gave away the docked tail to a nurse friend  I knew needed a companion... the female I leased to an officemate who I think is getting better than me researching on bloodlines... mine is a male I'm trying  to go for  MONDIO TRAINING (new club in my area) If mine's coat really turns out to be long stock and if the coat  is bad and cant be shown in the local siegershows probably get this boy a career in MONDIO.. I see the dogs of the new club giving high performance and I want my boy to be at par. with them  ..

Ask the friend for a simple notarized statement that the female is not pregnant.  State in the notarized letter that the stud fee is $XX and is due if the female ends up having puppies and refund the half stud fee.  Not worth the hassel and hard feelings.  Then if by some odd chance she actually IS carrying pups, the males owner has back up for AKC. Work together instead of looking to make more problems and hard feelings.

Racehorse people have more courtesy IMO.  Stud fee due when foal stands and nurses or alternatively, in mid Sept of year bred.  Big big name popular stallions are the only ones who did not give guarantees of live foals - Northern Dancer, Nuryev, Danzig, Seattle Slew etc.

actually in my experience horse breeders (stallion owners) require stud fee paid in full, before the mare is bred.  They do guarantee a live foal - but that means the mare is re-bred on the same stud fee if she is not confirmed pregnant, or does not have a live foal.  I've never heard of a horse-stud fee not due until foal is standing.  And I've been dealing with horse-breeders and stallion owners, including racehorses - for 25+ years.  But as with dogs, I'm sure there are different scenarios for every different breeder.

And guys you know what... my bitch gave birth a week later after I already kept the whelping box and the warmers and all thinking she's again not goin to give one... we even swam the river and ran half a mile together  because she's sexy... she only gave 3 pups ..but were all healthy...

I have been in horses, primarily race horses and cutting horses, all my life.

Stud fee due at time of service, one return if empty. is standard.  Daily mare care is usually charged as well. Any vet/health care expenses added to the bill.

I always had to pay stud fee for horses up front, often before the mare was even sent to the facility.  Typical live foal was stand and nurse, no time frame.

It's always interesting reading the different dog stud contract senarios and issues.  Something to keep in mind......

This is why business and friendship doesn't mix most of the time. It's really shitty that most times unless the friends are both on the same page, doing things for the same reasons, and have understandings of how things work in the business world, so they can't turn around and screw each other endlessly - it is nothing but trouble. I have seen one too many a friends try and screw another because "they are friends" and what applies in business, should not apply to them. It's like they get special rights to screw you, because "you are friends" ....

but to all who are unfamiliar with AKC guidelines. AKC will still register any litter, born from pure bred AKC registered dogs, without the signature of the stud dog owner. You cannot use monetary reasons for not signing a litter registration form. Unless you have a stud dog agreement in place, specifing reasons you will not sign the litter registrations other than monetary reasons, AKC will register that litter, also AKC has the right to ban stud dog owners from registering any dog, in the future, for refusing to sign a litter registration for monetary reasons.

Tony

Is this true?

Doe anyone here know for sure?
