Thank God you rescued Max from his misearble situation. Good advice here so far... get him healthy first. The muscle tone should build up slowly as he starts to get exercise, but he's got to heal up first. Take it slow. Get rid of all the parasites and get the weight back on him. Keep us posted on his progress. Once he's back in shape then you can explore options for training.
Best wishes!

Thank you all.... Yes first things first and Max's health is the most important thing to both my husband and myself. He hasn't thrown up at all yet today, I know the day isn't over yet but it seems like a good sign. He has eaten 2 small meals and I have given him his meds at 9am this morning and so far he hasn't thrown it up so maybe this pill got in. He seems like he is still hungry but the vet said to only feed him several times a day in small amounts. I do walk him but a very small amount, only around the back yard, just want him to get used to our home. We do have 3 other dogs but I am keeping him away from them until he is better. I have been home from work but will have to go back tomorrow, my husband is taking a day off tomorrow to stay with him.
He is so sad looking, hip bones sticking out and ribs showing, it is really a shame that people treat animals this way.
I have been reading about GSD all day, getting a little excited about the future with Max and all we may be able to do someday.
Again Thank you all, this is a great site, wished I would of found it before when I was looking for a puppy/dog. But as someone said God had a plan for Max and that included my family.
God Bless all of you and I will keep you updated on Max!

Thanks for being so kind as to rescue this dear little puppy. He's a lucky dog.
There must be special places in hell for people like his breeder.
