Marci, the UKC has generated their own standard for the GSD, it is not the FCI standard which DQ's longcoats and makes them ineligible for breed survey. The FCI and the WUSV standard is the same.
UKC shows are more directed to people having fun with their dogs rather than recognizing the ideal representatives of each of their approved breeds. Some UKC champions (of any breed) would not qualilfy for an AKC championship. Many GSD with UKC champion titles might not qualify for a breed survey or place well at an SV show while some would. I have friends with UKC champions in other breeds but those dogs have never done well at AKC shows. UKC shows are a way to enjoy your dog without competing with pro handlers and a lot of political crap. Comparing what it takes to earned a UKC title, an AKC title, a KKL1 or 2, a Sch 1,2,3 or a high V rating, is not apples to apples at all. They are all separate and distinct titles some taking more effort than others.

LOL, not sure I want to answer that one, Marci. I would think it would require a lot more from the dog to be eligible to compete successfully under SV judges who adhere to the SV standards.
Frankly I'm glad that there are so many different venues available for people to enjoy working with their dogs. Years ago I thought I might like to breed a litter of GSD's. After all I had years of experience with another breed, had bred and finished a few AKC champions myself so I felt that would qualify me to breed GSD's. I knew about HD and ED and how important is was to use healthy breeding strock with no major faults. Ha! When I learned about titling, breed surveys and all that I decided to let the breeding up to the experts as I was far too lazy to ever train my dog in tracking, protection, OB and I would not want to send him or her off to a trainer. So I buy my dogs when I want one and let the breeding up to those who have the dedication to do it the right way. I didn't feel as if I wanted to add to the pet population. LOL.
