Would you want your 14 year old daughter having a baby! That's what it's equivalent too IMO!
Although, working at a vet, we do see our fair share of stupid people breeding their dogs at a young age just because they can.

"but it is within AKC rules, unfortunately. So there's not much you can do."
What I don't understand is why there is nothing we can do? There has got to be someone ethical that works for the AKC, who can up the age requirements. By them allowing someone to register a litter out of a mother that young, is clearly not promoting/backing anything "Responsible" or "Ethical"
The AKC has done nothing but enable the puppy mills and back yard breeders to continue pumping out puppies, with no regard for the overpopulation problems, and people who are striving to breed for the right reasons. This is just disheartning. I am always amazed at how low people will go to make a buck.

Unfortunately, according to AKC it's perfectly fine to breed 7 month old males and 8 month old females. Here's from the AKC website "Rules for Registering a litter":
SECTION 5. No dog or litter out of a dam under eight(8) months or over twelve (12) years of age at time of
mating, or by a sire under seven (7) months or over
twelve (12) years of age at time of mating, will be registered
unless the application for registration shall be
accompanied by an affidavit or evidence which shall
prove the fact to the satisfaction of The American Kennel
Club.
SECTION 6. No litter of purebred dogs and/or no

If you read their "rules" carefully, you'll see the only reason they limit the age AT ALL is because they don't think a dog under or over the ages listed COULD produce puppies. They'd still register the litter outside of those ages if the application is "accompanied by an affidavit or evidence which shall prove the fact...". This policy shows no concern for the health of the dogs whatsoever.

The AKC is all about the money. I think you are doing the right thing informing people about this unethical breeder. People can sue anyone for anything, doesn't mean it won't get tossed out. Telling the truth is not slanderous. The AKC is a whore & is all about the money. People complain about the SV system, but it's head and shoulders above any other organization in trying to protect the breed.
