One more thing.  For the record, I hate to see any shepherd bred who is not titled, etc.  A show rating is not a good excuse to breed a dog.  If you have read any of my posts you would see that position reflected.

Yea. I have a pup that is almost EIGHT months old and people ask if they could use him as a stud dog. I thinking, do these people know anything about German Shepherds.

The ones that ask you, I think not, lol.

Interestingly enough, there is a conversation on another message board that sort of speaks to the same thing.  Some guy is talking about the 2 "Breed Quality" Long Hair GSD's he is ready to breed because they are about 20 months old.   He is asking questions like whether he should do OFA or PENN HIP.  He is very indignant because it has been suggested that perhaps he should learn about the breed before he breeds.  After all, this is a free country.  What a jerk.  I'd laugh but when I think of overflowing animal shelters, rescues that can't take anymore in, & dogs crippled mentally & physically due to haphazard breeding I just really feel more like crying.

Shepherd Woman:  I just read your post about coats.  I did not know your dog was a coat when I made the above post.  Please believe me when I say I was not trying to make a dig at you.

sueincc, I didn't think anything of the kind : - }  I do appreciate your comments on any post that I add.  Yes, my boy is a long/plush coat and is doing quite well just starting in the show world.  I am working on his grand championship now.  His name is Complete Chaos Von Steppenwolf.  He is my first long coat, and I'd do it all over again if I ever bought another GSD.  He has the best temperament and is the best looking out of my 3 so far.  I think I'll keep him : - }  Thanks again.

And I do think the plush coated dogs are gorgeous, and of all the faults it's probably the least important, but I do think we should follow the rules set down by the SV, at least until the day comes  when we develop a system that consistently produces better dogs.  Although after the fiasco of the American Show Shepherd I'm not holding my breath for our success at building a better mouse trap.

I was on my soap box about the LC's. But you are right this guy has no business breeding those dogs, unless he understands what he is breeding and is in a position to keep the pups if he can not sell or give them away. Since you can not change most of their minds and they breed them anyway, I am hoping somene took the time to give him some sound advise.

It's a woman and I do think that she is pretty much clueless about breeding her dog.  I told her that she shouldn't breed her especially if the vet told her she shouldn't.  And with NO papers, she will get nothing for the pups when it's time to pass them on.  I sure don't want my dog to get caught up in that mess!  Not with what he has going for him right now.

Ms. Shep... ask her if she knows that... the closest thing to a GSD is a Bad old pitbull, and if she had learned about the news on GSDs being put to sleep after bitting a  7 year old's arm to pulp...and about the GSD being shot by the Police Officer because the breeder had no use of the dogs and does not know wher to bring them ( i'm making this up LOL...) Tell her the breeder got jailed.. or the dogs grew and became so hungry (they eat a lot you know) rip everthing in sight...backyards plants, laundry...

Say anything that you think might cool his hot head...

LOL...

Marci
