never said you should not inbreed, just that i do not,27 years ago i bred my bitch to a half brother with not to great a result.all the puppies were put in very suitable well vetted responsible homes.2 puppies joined the army all lived long happy lifes.NO PUPPY WAS CULLED THEY WERE ALL HEALTHY.it took a bit of time to find the correct homes but it was very worth it.i will not discuss this any further.i do not have an issue with what some breeders do,it is none of my concern but i do feel strongly about culling puppies when you know before hand that they will not be suitable for the general public.and just so that someone can have a clone of a dog they think is tops.and yes breeding is an art but you wouldn't want two the same as one would be an original and the other woud be fake.i am very familiar with sv rules. now please put it to bed. funky munky

Dawn:  I have seen many threads about working/show line crosses.  Some think it's a good idea and some don't, just like this thread, but I don't recall one where "all hell broke loose", could be a pre-senior moment.  If you don't mind, could you post a link?

Also, why would you think that because people are passionate about a subject there is something wrong with the picture?

This was the latest, there are a ton of them because the debate of crossing working and show line dogs seems to be one of our hot topics, but it stayed very civil.  Of course, Dawn when we do a "search" of that specific topic, it pulls up some rollicking conversations, to be sure!

One question please...I was just told by a person who imported a male from Germany  a while ago and he told me that in Germany,,the Kormeister, upon viewing a litter for approval , tells the owner of that litter that only a certain number,,,,NUMBER ...of pups can be kept for a registration.....this is culling.....and what do they do with the rest of the litter that the Kormeister tells them must go...

I dont live in Germany so I dont know the answer...Can someone tell us...Is that so in Germany..Is there a limit on litters , rulled by the SV as to how many can be left alive or registered....???

If Koos is doing 2-2 on Nick I have a hard time believing these pups can't be registered through the SV? There are others as well.  Bob-O has said there can be preapproval of such breedings under certain circumstances.  He has been above reproach on this board for years and I would tend to rely more on his knowledge of SV procedures than a newcomer. Nothing personal. But one has a known reputation and one is an unknown quantity.

I also heard about this limitation on litter size in Germany for certain breed especially rottweilers. There is lot of culling there. Now this may sound bad but this is the reality.

By the way, many of you have pet fish. Many of them imported. Guess how fishes were culled to send you the perfect fish.
