Mine all look to my husband as the alpha, but they love & obey me. His EPI girl has been infatuated with him since the day she was born, even before her eyes were open all the way she would try to squirm over the side of the  whelping box after him.
Ansgar has always been my Velcro dog. Beckett loves & obeys me, but he adores the Taskmaster, He Who Must Be Obeyed, lol, even tho' I did all the work & training, etc...he's protective of me tho', especially now!!
And our poor sweet Kali, while she lived, she lived to 'patrol' with my husband. But when when she was in the house or out with me, she was my luv bug, & she was more in tune with me, knowing when I was ill --sensing my low blood sugars etc. Ansgar has now stepped up to fill her mothers paw prints. All of them are guarding & protective of my grandkids when they are here, as they should be to vulnerable members of their 'pack'!

It is not just normal, but that is how it is always.
