Hello Everyone,

This may seem like a silly question but......

I want to show Cisco (for his Breed Survey) and wonder for those of you who show and participate in Schutzhund......do you use a fur saver for both venues or different collars for each discipline?

I'm asking because when showing in the ring the dog is taught to "pull" it's handler around the ring......and Schutzhund trails require the dog to be in fuss when trialing. If a dog feels the same collar is it confusing for them?

Cisco wears different equipment during training and I can tell a difference in his demeanor depending on which piece of equipment he's wearing. For example....if we are in SAR training and I don't put his harness with the bell on him he's not quite as serious about his job. But if he has his harness with the bell on, he's all business. Another example...when we are at SchH training he knows when I put the agitation collar on him he get's to go play with the sleeve guy :)

Your thoughts and suggestions would be greatly welcomed.

Thank You,
Cheri

In conformation they usually wear a conformaiton collar.

Training your dog to look its best is part of the show. Pulling too hard will cause him to scramble with his front legs and use his back legs......not good.

Thanks Sitasmom,

I have seen those on different web sites and thought that must be what they were for.......I've shown horses for years and know it's important to have correct equipment (usually means it may also have to be the latest style everyone else is using). The equipment you use can add or subtract from how well your animal is presented.

How are those fitted, since I assume they just slip over the head.

yes just slipped over the head.
they are limited in sizes and are quite loose.
when training, start with this collar and also a fursaver on the same leash as backup. if your dog tries to loose this collar the fursaver will stop him.

on www.caninetrainingsystems.com i think i saw a dvd on how to train a dog to gait.......

I've only ever used Fursavers in conformation, and I also use them for Schutzhund trials, SDA trials, CGC tests, etc. and have never had my dogs misbehave because of the collar.
