Just as i find it interesting the pedigrees of dogs in use in the force does anyone know the pedigree or dam/sire for "fiscal" who is titled as "UK''s best police dog"
Video below:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5kOrwRr6gQ
just curious or infact any pedigrees of other active uk police working dogs.
I know there are loads and i have seen allot already, just interested in other peoples knowledge.

Unless the handler or someone directly connected to 'Fiscal'
posts a reply on here, probably the only way to trace the dog, or
the mating which produced him, is if you know his KC registered
name.
Many dogs in operational use are bred by those regional Police
forces who have kennels themselves; but a whole lot of others
are donated or sold to the Police, by their breeders, including imports,
and there are also still more than a few that are selected from dogs in
rescues (about which very little is usually known).

Hi fineline
both of my dogs have police dog breeding in their lines - manpol, wypol, westmids - I have posted the pedigrees of both previously so won't do so again but I agree, it is very interesting. I understand that the male in my bitches pedigree is Manchester Police dog Archie.

Thanks. Sounds like "Visco" rather than Fiscal. Staffordshire don't breed their own;
but if he is Police bred he could be from any of the forces Runag mentions.
West Midlands sounds likely; but if he's from a Breeder or an import, or a Rescue,
he could be from anywhere / have anything as a Kennel Affix. I can try asking around.
Nice dog, per the video. Usually if the Handler / Officer has the dog from a puppy,.
they tend to say so in these type of interview. Sounds like he got him as an adult ...
Maybe something to tie up with the local Commendation, but no date on the video,
and where was the mention of "UK Best" ?

Take the UK's best with a pinch, as the majority of forces don't take part in competitions because they don't like the handler/dog abstracted from front lines duties to train or attend trials.
Most pedigrees as hinted end in POL, there are 43 UK forces, many of the smaller ones like Staffordshire don't breed their own, my force Thames Valley is ThamesPol, we're the second biggest section in the UK now, we do have a large breeding scheme, we import, and buy/sell dogs with all the other forces mentioned. We also sell the excess puppies. My only comment is the UK Police is very similar in breeding to countries like Belgium or Holland in that the bitch is X-Rayed and tested for sociability but that's about it, they are rarely worked or qualified as K9's and usually live in pet homes.
In the UK the dogs do get to bite/fight a lot due to our culture and the low level of incidents involving firearms crime which facilitates their frequent deployments, there are lots of strong schutzhund dogs in the many of the Police pedigrees, and names such as Tiekerhook have been in use for the last 15yrs since the quantine rules were relaxed.
They sell to the public what they can't use/sell to other forces, they have a high success rate but I would add caution as they are measured on performance and cost effectiveness so it raises the question if standards are lowered to achieve the right numbers for the bean counters.
Personally I bought from a private breeder in the UK but then I share the same office as the Dog Section, my humble opinion is that there are are some awesome dogs, and total rubbish but then they get the time to train and most important the opportunity to develop through real life exposure.

Sorry, should have said "Could be from any (of the 3) Ronag mentions or
from one of several other Forces " - I didn't mean to imply it was only
Manchester. West Yorks and the W Midlands who bred their own ! As a
'local', I would never DARE suggest Thamespol didn't !!! [ As a Londoner by
birth, perhaps I should also give 'honorable mention' to Metpol, Keston, too.]
(Gosh, Ronin,.are there really still 43 separate Service regions ?).
