Yes Boxers are still very much a working dog but mainly in their home country of Germany and other euro countries.
In Germany the working element is maintained by all Boxers having to do the ztp or suitability for breeding test which involves many tests of confirmation health, character, endurance and protection they have to pass this test before being allowed to be bred from and then the mating has to be approved by the German boxer club to avoid close inbreeding.
Another requirement in Europe is the dogs have to have a working title before they can become a show champion this too retains working ability.
Germany is the home of schutzhund and they have individual breed championships including Boxers, there are many sch3 titled boxers in Germany and throughout the year there are qualifying rounds to be able to take part in the championships.
The Boxer is a very good sch 3 dog scoring very high, they make very good tracking dogs and also excel in protection work.

the Boxer was the first dog to be employed by the German police as a patrol dog and at one time outnumbered the German shepherd in this role.

Boxers today are still used by Police and services across Europe but not in the numbers you would see gsd's being used.

in the main Boxers here in the UK are bred for the show world and for pets and not for working and so therefore their ability as a working dog has faded, its not completely gone and most still retain a certain amount of working drive but not to a high level as seen in Boxers from Germany.
