Well, I am somewhat confused if show ratings are given in the Adult Open class or not.

I would like to attend the USCA SE regional show and show in the Open Class. But without getting an official show rating, it doesnt justify the cost. Reading through the UScA rules for Conformation shows it states that an SG can be awarded. So everything should be good, right?

Whats so confusing is that when looking at the GSDCA-WDA regional show from spring this year, the Adult Open Class got only placings, but no ratings. Both events are judged by a SV judge from Germany. So in a way, there shouldnt be any difference?

Maybe someone with more experience can enlighten me, please?

No official show rating...
Open class means: older than 2 years without SchH title.
For earning a show rating a dog older than 2 years needs at least SchH1.

Hold the phone, I am not 100% certain because I have not been in this position but I believe the rating of SG or G earned in an untitled class is official and can be used in a breed survey after the dog is titled and meets the other requirements. I believe this places the dog in the same position as in the 12 to 18, and 18 to 24 classes where a title is not necessary.

Just checked breed survey rules for UScA and WDA, UScA requires the show rating to be earned in the youth, young dog, or working class, WDA only requires the title to be awarded by an SV judge the WDA rules do not specify which classes. I am still unsure as I have been to shows and I have seen results showing SG titles awarded in untitled classes. susie may be right but I hope she would expound on her reply. It seems strange that a SV judge would give a title if it was not official maybe that is why the WDA show did not list any titles.
Elkoor, getting an SV judge to give you a critique may make it worth your time but only you can judge if the expense is worth it.

Thank you guys for responding. I think I found the answer I was looking for. Showratings can be awarded but it can not be used for a future breed survey.
