How about a working line this time ;)  Before you nail him on his color, his pigment is excellent, but IMO, it's just as hard to photograph a sable as it is a black.  I mean, this guy isn't a dark dark sable, but he's not as pale as he appears in the first photo either.  Just sayin' xD

I think his color is fine, he looks like a young dog and sables change sooo much.

I like the second photo of him more.  He's got pretty good bone, looks very strong and dry.  Short upper-arm, slightly short croup, tail set slightly high (it's a pet peeve of mine when you can see a dip and bump where the tail attaches...very minor issue, just a pet peeve, lol.)
Very good proportions, very good overall structure.  He's young and it shows, but looks promising.  Of course, he's not as flashy as your other dogs.  Overall he's very moderate, which is a good thing.

From second picture:

Grey dry sable male of good type, correct size, good proportions, length to height is at the top permissible ration, correct lovely chest depth and leg length, gorgeous notable head with a little dome on the forehead but does not affect the total beauty of the head, good ear carriage and good dark mask. Beautiful strong neck of correct length and proportion to the body. Flat withers but of good length, nice top line, strong back, long loin, short croup of correct lay, a little high tailset, beautiful tail of correct length, good thigh, stifle needs a bit more turn, nice tight feet both front and rear, strong hocks but long, good underline, pasterns slightly overangled but look strong, nice clean front, lacks forechest development, short and steep front upper arm, good shoulder blade lay. In short a typey male, "I like him" , I didn't comment on the not very rich pigment

long body, short croup, low withers, long pasterns......better then usual upper arm and shoulder in general, good underline.
for working line, he is well above average.

His pigment is excellnt ;)  I do think people confuse pigment vs color frequently.  His nails, lips, nose. and paw pads are are very black.  Lack of dark color does not = lack of pigment.

I would like a deeper turn of stifle.  It may yet come, as he's still butt high.  I don't need an American rear, but he does borderline underangulated.

Thank you for the comments on both virtues and faults.  I'd like to get his ratings at some point :)

Yes I agree to that, I will only add that strong non paling coat color is part of strong pigment, when a dog looses color strength that is considered weakness of pigment, dark or lighter hair color in itself is not an indication of strong or poor pigment, even some white hair is not an indication of poor pigment.

This puppy is a Bandit Wolfsheim son by the way.  I waited a very long time for him, and he will be my next service dog.

I adore him.  I haven't felt this way about a puppy since my Straussdog was one (he's the 8 year old on the other thread).

Can't add anything ... between you all, you've described him to a 'T'.
If you get fed up with him , send him over to me in England - I always did have a soft spot for a lighter
Sable.

I'm sorry, you can't have him.  Waited three years for this baby xD
