This is my honest critique:

GSD female of beautiful bi-color, rich pigment, poor proportions; too stretched and too deep a chest, short legs, small and narrow head, too long a neck, good high and long withers, there is a drop behind the withers, nice topline, good croup length and good lay of the croup, good tail and tailset, very deep hind angulation, underline isn't sporty, over angled pasterns, clean front, good forechest development, good length of front upper arm but slightly steep, good lay of shoulder blade. Her deep chest, long back and neck make her appear out of balance. Maybe the stack isn't the best and that affects how she looks.

Mostly Agree with everything but pasterns as they don't seem that bad to me. She seems to need more scope as her legs appear too short for her body and she seems really long. But, she has a beautiful bi-color coat and a nice croup!! But, I'm no expert! Kudos to you for getting out there and showing her. I bet she is a good mover.....

This picture does this girl no justice.  I also would bet she is of American lines.  I like the outline of this bitch. The only thing I see that is really offensive is she appears to be alittle overweight, and her neck needs more substance.  If her mouth would be open her head would not appear to be as small as it does now.. ALSO... Her head is facing away from the camera.  That and the blurry picture has ALOT to do with the appearance of this girl...

I feel that before an honest critique can be made, a MUCH better pic needs to be seen.  JMO!  I like her!!

I agree that she needs a better photo for a more accurate critique.  Her head is facing slightly away from the camera, a little blurring going on there and the lighting isn't very good.

I think her pasterns are fine and that she's not really short-legged, but her long and deep body makes her legs appear short.  I think her legs are well proportioned.
Even with the blurry, head facing away shot, her face still looks feminine.

When I was a child, before I ever had a GSD, when most of my GSD experience was pouring over the breed books at the library or looking at photos online and watching the Westminster on TV, I fell in love with the American showline first back then.   It wasn't until later when I saw them in person and saw too many that moved like cripples or had temperament and health issues that I started looking to the European lines instead.  But a part of me still loves the flashy American showline style in photos, so I personally like how this girl looks in photo, even with aspects that are considered faults in the German standard, like the deep body.  I love long necks (as long as they aren't ewe-necked) and a more upright front.
If this was a male, I would want to see a neck of more substance too, but for a female I think it's fine.

In this picture, she looks pretty and better looking than many photos I've seen of extreme American showlines.  But the real question for me is, what is her temperament and health like, and how does she move in the walk, trot and run?  (i add the walk and run because I've disliked how many AM showlines move in these gaits)

I disagree with most of Ibriham's critique.

Yes, the bitch is too long in the loin, but her depth of chest is beautiful, as is her forechest.  There is a huge problem in the breed right now with lack of chest, both in depth, prosternum, and poor spring of rib.  Nothing wrong with her pasterns, nice and firm.  Bone is good, could use maybe a smidge more.

She has plenty of leg.  The deep chest couple with her beautiful dark color creates the illusion of an animal that is low on leg.  She does look a bit chunky, and her tuck up isn't as pronounced as it should be due to that.  Nice high wither, good croup and tailset, feet look a tiny bit flat.  I think her head looks quite strong, but it is slightly blurred, and I'd like to see a headshot from the front.

She's a bit overangulated in the rear for me.  Layback of shoulder looks beautiful, could use a longer upper arm

Thank you for the comments.....I really like this girl of mine and realize she is far from perfect but has more good qualities than bad and I can build from those. She resembles her sire greatly. Here is a link to her pedigree http://www.vegrenan.com/resources/ninaped.jpg  and for the person that requested a head shot here it is - she has just turned 2 years of age.

Nice american showline bitch. actual her chest is right in depth, even though I think her front legs could use an extra inch compared to the rear. Thats why she is falling a bit on the forehand while gating. Her expression is lovely and feminine.
How did she place in the ring?

by Hutchins on 18 August 2012 - 19:08

I liked this bitch from the first picture you posted and I like her even more now.  I think that while in motion, she protrays herself to be very balanced.  The movment pic is take prob a tad off in timing. But the extenison and follow through on this bitch is VERY nice.  Her topline is nice and straight. She does have alittle "lift" in her reach, but it could also be from the timig being off when taking the pic.  Over all, From the pic you have here, you should be able to finish this girl with no problems.

Her pedigree is awesome with some of the best producer of correct GSD progney for that time.  Although Ken-Delaine's Master Charge is in her 4th(?) generation, I do believe she is a good representative of what he produced in his time as a stud.  ALthough he, Master Charge, was more angulated, he produced better than himself when bred to certain bitches.

This is a very nice girl, you should be proud of her.  When it is all said and done, the only person you have to please is YOU!!  Remember that!!!

GOOD LUCK, keep us posted!!
