On a bitch listed below in the new dog gallary:  Troya Legendhov - can you look at her progeny listed and tell me how that sable got in there;  or is it considered a red sable or what??  All brothers/sisters are black and red.  Now I am confused.  Thx  Nan

The sire of the sable pup is a patterned sable - hard to tell from the picture but he is sable.  His sire Timo is also a "patterned sable" dog.  So, sable parent = possible sable puppies.

The sire, Arex is definitely sable, out of the famous sable, Timo. Check out the picture in Arex's gallery to help you see his coloring better:

Also to take this one step further;  Bomber von Wolfsteim (please forgive my SP) is black and all I have seen out of  him is Black puppies;  So black to black only produces blacks or black and also bi-color??  Thx  NAn

Solid black is the most recessive in colors and a solid black dog has two solid black genes, so when a solid black dog mates the resultant offspring will be determined by the other part. Just remember that each dog has two color genes, example:
When a solid black dog mates with a black/tan dog carrying two black/tan genes then all the puppies will be black/tan.
If the black/tan dog has a recessive bi-color gene some of the puppies can be black/tan and some can be bi-color.
If the black/tan dog has recessive black gene then some puppies can be black/tan and some can be solid black.
For better understanding of color genes research the subject in old threads and read Eichenluft replies.

Black X Black = 100% black puppies.  Black X other color = ??? depends on what the other parent's color was, and what the other parent's recessive was.  Black is always recessive so if a black dog is bred to a dog with no black recessive, none of the puppies will be black, but all will carry black recessive from the black parent.

The pup in the picture seems to be a fairly normal red/tan sable who is in his fuzzy stage where the dark hairs of his adult coat haven't come through.

As far as Bomber, it looks like an awful lot of solid black bitches are being bred to him, but he does have non-black puppies. Check out this page: www.working-dog.eu/kinder-details/38773/Bomber-vom-Wolfsheim

Okay, I've been looking and reading this, so just to see if I understand, If Timo is sable, then one of his parents must be sable. Which one is that? Thanks.
