This is day 11 for my GSD after giving birth..Can i bathe her now...The Stench is not as bad as it was but I would feel so much better if i can now take her to her vet and get her nails and have a nice bath...

I would say it's safe if you use puppy shampoo, try to avoid the udders if you can, and Rinse, Rinse, Rinse.... You may also have to express some milk from her nipples to get the smell back on her, although at 11 days, the puppies probably "know" their mother...
Good Luck

I wouldn't take her to the vet or groomer tho..  to risky to expose her to virus'..

Great advice from Jody, definitely do it at home ;-)

ewwww dog smell.    aren't you going to swing by the salon and have her permed and parfumed?  why have dogs in the first place?

No vet, groomer or anywhere else for that matter. The risk of exposure, especially from the vet is far too great to risk a whole litter of puppies. If the smell bothers you give her a hose bath or a baby wipe bath until you can take her out. Baby wipes are awesome for cleaning just about anything and I am never without.

I agree...nothing but warm water.  Your female is still not totally closed and won't be for about 5 - 6 weeks.  You risk infection not only to your female but to the puppies if she gets sick.  Actually, by day 11, my females have themaselves nicely cleaned up and all I need to do is refresh them a little.

I used a wash cloth & warm water to 'spot clean' Kali after her litter. She pretty much took care of the rest, & I made sure we started out nice & clean, with trimmed & filed toenails, etc., before she went into labor. She was pretty fed up with me, 'cause I was pestering her about her nails like every day before she had her pups, I was so afraid she would injure a pup with long toenails.....silly me, she was such a good mom. I kept the whelping box bedding very clean as well, helps with odors, & with the general health of the bitch & pups. Had to change it 2 or 3 times a day, the first few days. I was very leary of using any type of cleaner in the whelping box itself, so I kept a thick layer of bedding which I covered with old flat sheets, tucked in around the edges, so puppies couldn't wiggle under & suffocate. I had a big, towel lined laundry basket I put the puppies in when I changed the bedding, & Kali would stand right there & supervise the whole procedure, sometimes climbing in the whelping box to 'check it out' while I was spreading the new, fresh bedding...our puppies always smelled like fabric softener, nice for cuddling! Later I switched to newspapers, as the pups, & their messes got bigger....I don't think Kali got a real bath until the pups were gone to their new homes....& she was always clean looking & smelling!
Is your bitch healthy? She's not having foul smelling drainage, is she? If she is, that would warrant a trip to the vet's, not the groomer! Good luck, I hope she's OK!  jackie harris

Oh, & I will add, we tried pine shavings once, before the newspaper....BAD idea...everyone was sneezing, me, Kali, my husband, & the pups....& then trying to clean it all up was a nightmare.....yuck! Won't do that ever again! jh
