Gauner vom Kirschental www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/119376.html and
Bernd vom Lierberg www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/187.html are not East German dogs. Minor mistake!
A few important dogs were left out and should have been added.
Otherwise, a nicely put together movie.

My understanding is that Bernd Lierberg and his littermate Bodo are part of the DDR breeding and were used a lot in the East.  The East also liked Marko Cellerland and some Czech dogs.

Michele,
everything is linked to the B-litter vom Lierberg - workinglines, showlines...
The B-litter was born in 1962. During these times, any East German breeder had a tough time crossing the border to breed his females but some did (usually through Hungary which served as kind of a portal to the West).
There is an interesting tidbit on Martin Goebl's website about a mysterious visit in 1986: How a nervous gentleman came to his house wanting to see Uran vom Wildsteiger Land. This man went from East Germany to Hungary and then illegally to West Germany to see the living legend. He would have been arrested on the spot, had the East German border guards found out. He turned out to be an East German judge and breeder, Klaus Gothe. The story can be read (in German only) on www.wildsteiger-land.de under Historie (History).
The "iron curtain" truly was one. Not much crossed it. I grew up about 50 miles away from it.

Well, Rookie is doing his best to keep those bloodlines going.  Along with his trusty DDR sidekicks, Tika, Centra and Gala.

Yes, there will be a puppy in my future.
