How many times have you hurt yourself training?  The older I get, the more black and blue I get.  It doesn't help that I am uncoordinated to begin with, but today I took a nosedive in the yard while playing ball with Georgia.  My leg and ribs are all bruised up.  Last year I gave myself a black eye.  Don't get me started on what happens when we go skijoring.

Georgia is always perfectly fine, looking at me like "hurry up - it's your turn to throw the ball!!"

I went to take my dogs for a hike in the woods, and of course we're playing along the way. so I cut through the horse pasture with 4 dogs with me. We just had outragious rain so there is "lots and lots" of mud, and I am wearing some big old mud boots.
well, my boots got sucked down into the mud, and my body kept going forward. Needless to say I went head first into the mud, one boot on, one boot off. Now, my dogs deceide this must be part of the fun and they thought I was part of tug of war, and that the boots were open season.Duke got the mud stuck boot and took off with it, while the others slopped mud all over me while "trying to help me up".
The more I laughed, the more they thought they were doing good. After a few DEMANDS, Duke brought me back my boot.I came back to the house literally covered from head to toe with mud.
until the mud dries up, no more short cuts for me!

My doctor once told me that he used my various and neverending dog-trainging-related injuries as cocktail chit-chat and no one could believe how often I got injured!

Lately, it has been head injuries. Last month my male hit me in the jaw coming out of his crate at training.  He hit me  with his head so hard, I nearly passed out.   I am convinced he gave me a concussion.  I had to pull over twice going home, so a 1 hour drive became 3, because I kept getting woozy.  I was afraid to go to sleep that night, until a nurse friend told me that it was ok.

This past Sunday the bitch hit me right between the eyes while we were working on holding the dumbbell in the LR.   She got all excited at the praise and popped up just right to bop me.  I had to take actual pain killers to sleep and the swelling still has not gone down completely.  It's still painful, too.

I consider myself lucky, though, that  I have not yet gotten my legs tangled in a long-line, while the dog was taking off.   I know folks who left the training-field in an ambulance behind that, especially with textured lines.   Nothing like being pulled downfield by a dog bent on a courage test when the line is wrapped around your ankle.   The result was a dislocated knee in one instance, and a broken ankle in another.

Add in the  occasional nip, trip, slide (I have seen 2 groin pulls on the send-out on slippery ground), and dog-training is hazardous!!

Mystere, my kids have klunked me in the jaw or elsewhere so that I saw stars, the dog has been much kinder, lol!

With my dogs and myself, I always end up with a twisted ankle. Never fails, finding the one  mole hole in the yard, the hidden log, and mostly the hidden step, and then I'm screaming for ICE!

kitkat I had a big laugh over your scenario--I can see it all now...........

I thought I was the only one! :-) I have tennis elbow in both arms from tug and obedience and last month I tore my MCL on the field doing bitework. I think she is secretly trying to get me out of the picture. ;-) Theresa

I have damaged my rotator cuff from throwing toys and dumbbells first thing in the morning, before I even get out of bed.  Throwing "something" is also the last thing I do at night.  My right shoulder is shot!

I am so glad I'm not the only one!  My husband just looks at me like I'm crazy.

Gee, these all sound familiar ;)  I really appreciate my sweet little collie at five am every morning...she comes out of her crate so carefully and lovingly....and calmly... And then I let the tasmanian devil out to go pee and he jumps for joy, right into my throat. Also, for a 65 lb dog he sure can throw a punch. Until I got the little devil, I didn't realize dogs could throw punches..

I get bit *every* time I train my dog, which is several times a week.  Two days ago I got bit in the face.  I was not pleased!  So far I haven't tripped or fallen too bad.  I do have bruises all over my legs so I always have to wear pants.  These are mostly from Coke jumping on the bed (on ME) at night.  Worst than the bites sometimes are the claws.  Like if the dog is coming around me for whatever reason, or finishing too close and then takes off, I've had some very deep gashes from my dogs.
