We have a 2 1/2 yr old female it's here 69 day pregnant around 330 this morning had a pup. It's been 6 hours and she still hasn't had another I know she has more in her she was xrayed at around 49th day.I can see them moving and she will be calm for about 1/2 hour then back to panting heavy.Just got off the phone with vet and she would like for me to bring her in around 1030 she is talking C section. I just need to know should Iworry because so long gone past? She is in perfect health.I'm asking because well lets say vet likes money.

You might have the vet give her a shot of oxytocin and see if that helps before resorting to a c-section.

Have you walked her?  I would walk her and see if that helps.  However, I would not wait much longer.   I know vets like money but if she is pushing and not producing a puppy oxytocin will do no good.  She may need a C-Section.

Ihave had her outside walking around. And no she isn't pushing just heavy panting just got off the phone with vet and going to give her a shot of oxytocin.

I think after 6 hours and no pup, a better plan would be

1.X-ray to look for stuck pup

2.Oxytocin if no stuck pup

3.C-section if stuck pup

The problem with giving Oxytocin if there is a stuck pup is that you run the risk of uterine rupture and DIC in the bitch especially when given in larger doses which is more the old school way of giving it.

Keep us updated.

Did the shot help? Are the puppies OK? And the mom?

by zigzag on 30 March 2010 - 18:03

About an hour after the shot she had her 2nd female.
Then about 2 1/2 hours later her first male.
Mom is doing great
will keep you updated
Thanks
