I just found these old links posted elsewhere, and thought some of the older posters or those interested in GSD history might enjoy seeing them!
The white coat gene in the Shiloh shepherds came from these lines, as well as the Hoofprint kennel here in Canada. Some of you may remember that the split between the Shiloh and the GSd happened when Tina brought in Sampson, a dog that was part giant malemute and part GSD. The GSD part of his heritage was from the white shepherds I've linked to above, plus some blood from the Littlest Hobo lines! Yes, Rin Tin Tin is in there too, through the white shepherd lines. During the 80's and 90's, the white GSDs remained truer to type than the American show line dogs, so Daphne Herford, the current owner of the Rin TIn TIn kennel, bred to some white GSDs. Unfortunately, that has resulted in the Rin Tin Tin dogs becoming very pale in colour.
Anyway, take a look at the above link. It's a very interesting piece of GSD history. These dogs have lines going to famous American kennels such as Long Worth, San Miguel (which also produced Roy Roger's Bullet) Villa del la Marina, and Bodyguard. There's a good dash of German blood back there too, including Sieger Odin von Busecker Schloss, the sire of Tasso of Villa Marina!

Just wondered. Stepson has a Giant Malamute and she looks nothing like the pic I saw of Sampson...Also, I had a GSD/Malamute cross and he didn't have the wolfy look, either.

I'm definitely old enough...lol
Problem is my memory. I'd love to see old re-runs, the times were so different back then.
So were the dogs.

BTW, I've been mis-spelling his name. It's actually Shiloh's Secret Samson-Woo. I'd have dropped the 'Woo' part if I were naming him, but I think it was because he vocalized like a husky rather than barking. Some of his descendants are very vocal and like to 'talk' to their owners by going 'woo-woo-woo'!

That is the dog that started my love of GSD's.
I just got an old Disney movie called Atta Girl Kelly, about a German Shepherd guide dog.
I haven't had a chance to watch it yet.
