I just read the entry on the panda German shepherd from 2006, but it wouldnt let me reply to that, so Im making a new topic.

Some people were saying that white German shepherds aren't full bred, well Im not sure about the blood lines but I have a white GSD and he definitely has the same personality as my black/brown one. He's a little more laid back but he's also getting old. He doesnt compete in anything, but I have done some agility with him. He's great with kids (loves them really). He's really smart, and everyone that meets him loves him. He's the exact same as my black/brown GSD, except he isnt a disk dog.

Back to the pandas, I think that there MIGHT be a possibility that they're full bred if one of the parents is white and the other has a normal coat. Ive never known one personally or seen on in person, so I cant really comment on their personality.

The GSDs that are white with a patch of black is called birthmarks. Ive seen one with a patch on his face, and one with a strip wrapping around a females hind leg. I still dont know if these are full.

What  do yall think?

A lot of info about hypothesized genetics on the panda can be found here on a 2008 Panda thread:
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/bulletins_read/162528.html

Spontaneous color "morphs" pop up all the time. It can occur in wild animals (very rarely) but more often the mutation for patched coats seems to be a correlation with the domestication process. The well known russian fox farm experiment showed that the piebald trait spontaneously occured in the selectively bred farmed foxes -- thus ruining the coats for fur, but opening up a whole new avenue of discovery.

There is no such thing as a "panda" GSD recognized by any GSD registry in the world.

Please read the standard, GSDCA or SV.

Whatever it is, it is not a German Shepherd Dog as recognized by any GSD registry in the world.

If you want to dispute, then please present your "Panda" GSD at any SV or GSDCA show.

Best,
Rik

That might be true, Rik, but if it is proven to have come out of two German shepherd dogs, it must be a German shepherd dog. Livers aren't recognized in show rings either, but they are still GSDs. Just not "good" GSDs (meaning show quality)...such as below...even though she is definitely a GSD.

A good Friend of mine accedently ended up with a litter of puppies with white markings on the face, up the legs, huge patches on the chest.. It was an outside breeding to a working police dog, and her female was from West German/American lines. Stuff happens.. There is an American Lady that is breeding beautiful dogs with high white markings, they are doing DNA testing etc and making sure the stock are all healthy.   I personaly do not like the looks of the dogs with excessive white, but if there is a market for the color called "Panda" so be it.. it won't be from me.
