Is the canned green tripe that Solid Gold going to be as beneficial as the frozen raw?  I am feeding raw diet and want to add some tripe once or twice per week.  Any thoughts??  Thanks  Nan

I've only fed the fresh/frozen tripe.  I would imagine that the canned triped is cooked in some way for stability?

It would be my 2nd choice if I couldn't find any regular fresh/frozen.

If you don't have the room for large tubes of fresh/frozen, you can also order from places like Aunt Jeni's that will ship to you frozen. Although I'm not sure if Aunt Jeni's has regular tripe as they have a lot of mixed frozen diets.

I have fed Tripett cans when I had no other choice. I personally wouldn't buy ANYTHING from Solid Gold; I have just never been impressed with one thing they manufacturered.

I feed fresh green tripe, both beef and elk. Of course it's sometimes frozen (so I can stand the smell) but it's fresh frozen, no processing except cutting or grinding, and freezing.

Hey  thank you both;  I wasn't too excited about it being Solid Gold but it is all I can find without doing the cut up and freeze stuff myself,  don't have  a lot of freezer space so am limited.  Would you still get the benefits with canned?  I am not too excited about handling the stuff myself so thought canned might be an option.

I would use the Tripett then. You should be able to find that easily. I don't like some of the additives in other brands. I'm sure you'll have benefits, just not to the same degree as if you got it straight from the cow, so to speak.

I sell the stuff, Nan...do you want me to send you a few ziploc baggies of it? That way you could see how you handle it? For whatever reason, the elk tripe isn't as bad as the beef- diet difference perhaps. If I froze it solid (we have a freezer set to -60), I could send it priority mail and it would still be fresh- depending on where you  live.

I use frozen from GreenTripe.com   I get it in 1 pound chubbs but it also comes in larger sizes.  I get the excalibur.

You don't have to cut it up, if you get it ground, which is the only way I'll do it. lol

Michele's website suggestion is a good one.

I feed frozen ground, I order 2 lb rolls.  If he is out of  2lb rolls I make him cut the 5 pound rolls into smaller quantities for me because I can't stand the stuff and 5 pounds at a time is too much to deal with.

You would get some benefits from canned , just not as much as the real deal.

Hey Jen do you think you could ship some of your raw meaty bones the same way??  Would they stay frozen to Jersey??  I like the looks of you ostrich necks, we don't have those around here.

I feed them right off the cow...army green. Disgusting, but the dogs think it's heaven.

by LynOD on 10 March 2010 - 19:03

Bless you VomMarischal for being able to stand the stuff that way. LOL!!  I am sure your dogs appreciate it! I to it in large frozen pieces once and had to cut it to serve I almost threw up and I am not of a faint stomach.  The stuff is nasty!!
